Not who is better long term, not who do you like better....

Simply this year's current team...which staff would have them higher in the standings?

Ruff and the current staff?

Granato and last year's staff (if they were still here with the exact same roster that Ruff has now)?

Not sure if this will go anywhere but i'm curious.  I know a lot of people will say "no difference" or "it doesn't matter" or "about the same"...but if you had to pick one, which would you rather have?

I am not sure if it would make much of a difference since many of the assistants are the same and the front office is the same.

We know Ruff and co. do not have the team in a good position now. So I will vote for Granato.  What we have is not good, and I cannot prove the negative so that is my choice.

Granato was the right coach to follow Krueger. It's still an open question for me whether Ruff is the right replacement for Granato. In my view, Granato's strength is in developing young players. But that stage of development for young players on this team is over with where now it is about seriously competing to win right now. The Granato firing was a reasonable action to take at the time.

Ruff is clearly not in a position to make any radical moves/changes. The culture and the general composition of the team and the organization is the same. The team SLIGHTLY resembles more of a typical hockey team but only slightly. Most of the same issues remain and they are likely to remain next year as well.

Almost certain everybody returns next year and if they fail again Ruff will be replaced by Appert mid season. Ruff might get bumped upstairs if Terry is a "fan" but he might also just get shown the door like Ted Nolan.

Obviously I'd prefer it if Terry cleaned house, turned it over to an experienced hockey guy and just went down to Florida to enjoy his money or just watch Bills games and just stay away. But it won't happen.

Neither due to the roster Adams assembled

And assistant coaching staff (being the same)….I can’t assess Ruff vs. Granato unless I knew for a fact that Ruff would have hired these same guys had he had 100% autonomy to do so (which I don’t believe he did).

Since we’re in last place I had to give the nod to Donnie.

This. Under Ruff, the Sabres are currently on pace to finish with 75-76 points. That’s what Granato got out of the team in his first full season, when we were still tearing down and the goalies were Tokarski and Dell and the we were using players like Wil Butcher and Andres Bjork.

Pass.  No vote.

It's the same coaching staff basically, even Seth Appert is part of the old Granato mindset.

Same clown of a GM running the team - he thought he "fixed" the bottom 6.  Yeah right, unfortunately he needed to fix the top 6 and move some of his former top 6 down to the second and third lines.

Cant blame Lindy for everything. It is February and his best center is a 20 year old rookie winger from Rochester.

Not one on the new 4th liners will fight for this team.  Malenstyn will skate fast and check hard, and we need that, but his gloves stay on.  Lafferty can't beat out Krebs or Kozak.   Abe Kubal is in the minors.  Great job Kevyn!

Ruff is trying to teach the kids things they should already know about playing in the NHL.   Several of them regressed by over-thinking and stress.

I mean, they are the same staffs. It's like asking what is better, getting kicked in the left nut or the right nut... neither.

Ruff isn't the correct coach for this team and he certainly is not with the group of assistants around him.

I didn't like the Granato hire since to me it was a cheap, safe hire. I didn't like the Ruff hire because it seemed like a moved just to get people to come back to the building instead of finding the right guy for the job imo. Why would anyone take this job knowing you can't even pick your staff? Why would you want to keep the exact same guys who weren't that good the previous 3-4 years? It's mind boggling when you think about how poorly this organization is run.

FWIW Adams insisted this is the staff Lindy wanted. It was portrayed as Lindy wanting to see how it would work.

I wonder what Lindy thinks about it now....

Maybe I'm naive, but to stand there and baldly lie about your head coach...

Adams is many things but he’s certainly not cunning. You can mislead but that doesn’t mean it’s not wholly apparent. All GMs do it: I’m not pointing out an Adams negative. Sh*t poker face, though, to be sure - that’s the differentiating factor

Didn’t Adams *hiring* of Ruff start with a lie? “Extensive search” yadda yadda

People DO believe this stuff, i suppose

If he can lie, he can lie baldly. I’ve seen his haircut
