I haven’t really followed player selection. Is this only for NHL players of the 4 countries, or can other players from said nations participate?

They can pick players from those 4 countries regardless of where they play. They are going to pick NHL players though.

Your article says that they could only pick from 4 defensemen playing in the NHL. All other NHLers are already on the roster.

Joker has a positive rating for the Sabres this season... and it's not all his time with Dahlin.

But taking Heiskanen and Hakanpaa out and replacing them with Jokiharju and Vaakanainen is...  uffda!

Good for him but that's a pretty poor D pool for them. I really wonder about this thing. They have it billed like it's the Olympics but I have this feeling it might just be a bs all star type thing with limited hitting and mediocre efforts. 

We all know that if this was really the 4 best hockey nations it would be Russia and not Finland but we can't have that can we. They can all play in the NHL and we can follow Ovi's goal quest but oh no, no team Russia allowed cause Putin. So ridiculous.

The individual players in the NHL aren’t representing their country when they play. They would be representing Russia and by default Putin in the tournament. Invading sovereign countries has consequences, including bans from international competition, be it the NHL or Olympics.

Why aren't TNT , Keller & Jason Robertson on the American squad?  I don't get Trocheck, Kreider or Nelson making the squad ahead on any of those 3 players.

Sure but it's well documented that Ovi is a huge Putin fan and friend and has even campaigned for him. When he breaks Gretzky's record he will be paraded around Russia as a national hero. So I still say it's all bs.

Vaakanainen has played solid since traded to Rangers, he will do fine as replacement to Hakanpää. But the lack of puckmovers in team Finland is a huge problem.

Russia would be in the tournament if Finland and Sweden had not refused to play against them I think.

I'd have to count the players but I feel that Czechia is actually better than Finland. Czechia plus Slovakia definitely.
