Subtract 10 to 15 million from the cap per year

Maybe it will make Cozens $7 per year a little better to another team considering trading for him?

Of course with this franchise it'll probably work the other way around....probably make Pegula think Cozens is less of an issue in relation to the cap so they'll justify keeping him even more.

If this is a bigger jump that most anticipated, it also makes signing Byram a lot more expensive if Pegula doesn't want to spend the money.

I had previously read projections for the cap increases in the next few years and they were considerably less than this.

Who does this help?  Teams that are right in their cup run window now, but are also up hard against the cap and might have a hard time adding pieces otherwise.  This is a gift to many teams, but mostly to Vegas and Toronto in my opinion.

I'd imagine McDavid's next deal, if longer term, will probably be worth about $17m per year. If it goes that high....is Edmonton still in on it?

Unless the rise in cap is accompanied by new TV money I'm not aware of, our this news will vastly accelerate our DEATH SPIRAL. 

Blow 1- Based on how poorly we're doing this year, it'll be a bad one financially. Now that winning multiple cups is no longer this franchise's reason for existence, Terry will tighten the purse strings further.

Blow 2- With the have teams of the league ramping up spending and us cutting down towards the floor, we'll be worse next year. There'll be even less butts in seats than before.

So you have a floor team, in a market no player wants to go to. We're in full on Oakland A's mode now.

If Pegula wants to create the illusion that he is spending enough to be competitive, he'll spend to the floor and then have GMKA serve as GM, asst. GM, assoc. I just have so much trouble grasping the whole concept of why the Sabres need to be cheap. From a CNBC article:

If the Sabres have an estimated revenue of $169M ... assuming 30% taxrate for corps (?) = $118M. Their player payroll is ~$73M this year ... They have almost no debt, where in the ever living FERK is the remaining $45M going????????

Granted my analysis is very crude, but I don't buy for one second this franchise is losing money ... Last year they had a confirmed revenue of around $159M. The concept of a billionaire try to save a few $M here and there on his favorite toy, while his other sports team makes money so fast he can't even count it just seems way way way off. I know most of the board is convinced, based on rumor, speculation, and pure disbelief that anyone could run a franchise this poorly, that T-Pegs has some sort of internal cap. I whole-heartedly disagree. I think the far more likely scenario is that he has asked GMKA to be "smart" with the money and GMKA is playing the "I need cap space to sign all my awesome young kids to contracts" game.

No idea either way, but I would think the costs for the non-hockey ops staff, travel costs, rink costs, marketing, etc would add up pretty quick. 

The flight budget alone seems like it would be significant.

That might be the plan. League not enjoying parity as much as they thought they would. Big markets in the playoffs is big money. 

I suspect this will make the FA asks get really ridiculous as their agents will start asking for a big piece of all that extra money.
