zero39 Posted yesterday at 06:44 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:44 PM It’s politics. Doug lost the gig because he wouldn’t get vaccinated during Covid. The antivaxxers are in power and the Sabres are bowing down, like all the other billionaires. 4 1 4 2 Quote
That Aud Smell Posted yesterday at 06:58 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:58 PM Where is the Aretha Franklin lookalike/soundalike?! As @Stoner's self-appointed counsel, he renews his demand therefor since it was initially made in The Days of Doug Allen. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted yesterday at 07:06 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:06 PM (edited) Meh. Lots of opposition arenas had much better regular singers when Allen was the day-to-day. The Sabres this season have had a bunch of kids and a competitive TV singing show contestant, so at least they were showcasing up-and-coming local talent, which seems nice, even if the performances are occasionally shaky and unprofessional. To a TV-only attendee like me it's a lateral move. Indifference. Edited yesterday at 07:07 PM by DarthEbriate 2 1 Quote

In a suit featuring palm trees. Sorry man, I just had to do it. 🙂 The question every hockey insider is trying to scoop now: "Will we see a return of the Doug Allen avatar by a certain Sabrespacer?" When I was 17, over 50 years ago, I would be at the Aud and while so many kids and teens wanted to be Perrault or Martin, I wanted to be Joe Byron! I went on to a career as a singer/songwriter for over 30 years and had the honor and pleasure of singing the anthem for about a dozen Sabres games both in the Aud and at the new arena. I’m SO glad that somebody else remembers Joe Byron! 1 4 1 Quote

I’m SO glad that somebody else remembers Joe Byron! We loved Tenor Joe in my neighborhood. My friend had a backyard ice rink that we all chipped in to help take care of. Over the years the rink got more elaborate with spotlights, boards, and batting cage netting to keep the pucks in play. The garage was near the rink and I rigged up a little sound system. Prior to games we pumped out a cassette recording of Tenor Joe singing the Canadian and US Anthems from a speaker in the garage window. I took my portable cassette recorder into the Aud and captured the songs live. Edited 21 hours ago by Pimlach 2 3 Quote
Broken Ankles Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago FanDuel has 1-3 odds the Anthem ends with a finger point. Watching the opposition broadcast has its advantages. Quote

GoPuckYourself Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago I'm not trying to play dumb (It just comes natural to me) but is there a significance to this? I generally want to know other than he wasn't allowed to sing because he didn't get vaccinated during covid from what I'm gathering reading. Is he a famous singer? Do tell! Quote

I'm pretty sure it's just something else for everyone to talk/complain about. The only anthem singer I ever made sure I watched was Rene Rancourt from Boston. Not because of his pipes, but because he would celebrate so hard at the end it was hard not to crack a smile seeing someone enjoy the moment so much. Edited 8 hours ago by SHAAAUGHT!!! 1 Quote

The Montreal singer whose name i cannot remember going from English to French was always nice to hear. Quote

He was the most annoying, and the most fun (at the same time), anthem singer I have ever seen. 1 1 Quote
