I cried as that game slipped away on Sunday. And then I kept crying for a while. For many reasons. Many of which had little to do with football, per se.

My oldest texted me words of consolation the next day. A little worried about me, I think.

I replied: “It’s okay, kid. This is all gift. And for gifts we are grateful.”

"every consequential moment. you always think they're gonna live forever, right? but they're not. nothing will. and that's okay. it's good. you're a winner if you feel it. you're a winner if you see it. somewhere along the way, if you see it -- for a second. and you don't have to remember forever. you never will. but if you see it for a second, man. you've won."

Further to my post above. Give the clip a watch. I love this young man's artistry (though he's probably not as young as I'd imagine). And, since I'm here, here's the song he's talking about.

Buffalo forever.

I have a few, but none something I'd call my top-tier fandom.

  • I lived in Philly for a long time, and since there isn't a direct conflict of interest, I was happy when the Philles and Eagles won over the years
  • Don't hate me: in 2001-2002, I was spending a lot of time in Boston for work; I was in town when the Pats won their first and that was pretty cool
    • This was their first SB, so they weren't "the Pats" yet
    • I even stuck around to go to the parade, since it was a block from the hotel

I was a NY Rangers season ticket holder (Section 334 Row H Seat 3) in 1994 and was there for Game 7, when Mark Messier led them to their first Cup in more than half a century - finally putting to rest that dreaded NY Islanders fan chant of "Nineteen-FORTY."

It would have been amazing at any time, under any circumstance. But the fact that it came four months after the Bills had lost their 4th consecutive Super Bowl (and I'd been there to witness all of them in person) made it a truly transcendent experience.

People were dancing, chanting and  mosh-pitting on Broadway, spraying and swigging champagne ... and when I dressed for work the next day,  I put on my eyeglasses only to realize that one of the lenses had been knocked out the night before and I hadn't even noticed.

Then, three days later: A Ticker Tape parade through The Canyon of Heroes with a million people lining the route.

Made me hope I live long enough to see a similar celebration in McKinley Circle. (Counting on YOU, Josh Allen!)  #1B4IDIE
