There are always more that a few guys in them that can't play hockey at all, that want the enforcer role, or that deliver late checks in a no-check league. I've seen lots of injuries in these "leagues". Quote
JoeSchmoe Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Thankfully most of the leagues around here are the types where it's mutually accepted that we all need to go to work the next day. I do recall a friend saying the league he played in at the old Hamilton "Double-Dumps" was basically what you described though. Quote

I was referring more to how to engage in actions that should be a penalty but are not called. I stopped playing in one league that was just people acting like Matt Rempe was their idol. No thanks. I prefer the games where everyone competes hard but doesn't cross the line. Sadly every now and then someone does and then there's payback to be had and that's when knowing how to engage without getting called is important. 1 hour ago, shrader said: And then there’s the beer league refs… They definitely help in not getting called for penalties. Last year had a guy on our team get hit from behind, given a concussion, no call. The league admin watched the Live Barn and suspended the guy. So what exactly were the refs doing? Yep, collecting their money. More than once I've had the refs basically say that if people want to beat the snot out of each other to go ahead and get it over with. They aren't calling anything and they don't break up fights. And then other times you have refs who call everything.. that happened last week in my game where an opponent and I got coincidental minors and neither one of us was certain why it happened. We both telling the ref that the other guy didn't do what the ref thought he did. My opponent got called for a slash that I never felt, heard, anything. Oh well. Quote
