My favorite part of the 3 min empty net sequence was the multiple times Peterka just totally flubbed everything that got to him.Β

JJP is definitely part of the problem and not contributing anything. Β Maybe some addition by subtraction in terms of having him sit out a game or two? Β I could be more forgiving if he showed some flash and speed, but he’s been a big nothing burger for a while now.

If ever a team needed a sports psychologist this is the one. Im convinced there's a lot of talent and no confidence amongst all these #1's

Oh, there is talent here, but the whole is far less than the sum of its parts. I'm sure a large percentage of these guys could go on to be excellent players in a real hockey organization. But we have a nincompoop GM who doesn't give any consideration to putting a cohesive team on the ice. We have too many redundant pieces, no leadership, and a bunch of guys who have no idea how to win in this league. Then we have a bunch of store brand assistant coaches "coaching" these guys.

It's mind boggling how poorly every segment of this organization is put together, from the owner, to the front office, to the coaches, all the way down to the players. And nothing will change because nobody in charge cares enough to do anything. And we're held hostage by their incompetence.

I wonder if Kevyn would admit that Carolina should’ve (and would’ve) gotten swept by us if we weren’t ravaged by bad luck injuries in β€˜06. He says he knows how a Cup winner operates and what it looks like. His resume shouldn’t even include that if we’re being honest.Β

You’re talking about Samson….I’m talking about EIchel. Β Eichel was on a long term deal for Buffalo (in case you forgot)

No I remember Eichel situation very well

the organization f*cked it up. He may not have been "Josh Allen" level of player but he is in the next tier and digging their heels in and not letting him get his surgery was their biggest mistake yet. Β  Β

I don’t know if I would agree with this. I think it’s a pretty big exaggeration. Beane is way too shrewd. We wouldn’t be a perennial powerhouse, but we would be a competitive team every year. We might have somebody like Cousins under center. I just don’t buy that we would be a terrible team or even close to the dumpster fire. That is the Buffalo Sabres if we didn’t have Josh Allen. Regardless, I thank God every day that we do have Josh Allen.

They hit a home run on Allen which makes the whole offense better. A mediocre quarterback and the Bills are middle of the pack or below. We shall see if the defense steps up because that’s what I’m worried about this team. Defense wins championships!

Didn't see the game...Β  Β but a goalie goal against?

A goal in the first 2 minutes of the second. A goal in the first 2 minutes of the third. Two goals in less than 30 seconds. A team with a bad record whipping the Sabres?

It all checks out.

Carry on, Sheevyn. Carry on.

Still, they did NOT have to trade him….but they did and we basically got Tuch in return (Krebs doesn’t count for much and neither does Γ–stlund to this point).

EDIT: Β and Greenway (2nd round pick trade) as mentioned by Darth

Isn't that part of the coaches job?Β
Ruff needs to have a tough conversation with the new GM and Pegula this offseason about who he can win with and who he can't. Β

I'm really starting to wonder about UPL. Β He is good until the first goal gets scored on him and then he can't seem to make that next save. Β  Β

I’m actually feeling really good about the game. A ton of reasons why but I just think we’re going to be able to out maneuver them and I trust Sean and the guys to be able to learn from earlier in the season and to execute.

Yeah, obviously Josh was a home run actually a grand slam, but I do believe you have to give a ton of credit to Beane and company for identifying exactly what they wanted and going and getting him. And putting in place the right people to develop him. And then build a team around him. It was honestly a master class. And I also feel that they’re all improving across the organization, which is just genuinely exciting.

I get what you’re saying, but I really just have to give all the credit in the world for them to know what Josh was way before anyone else could ever envision it.

They got 3 first round pieces for a guy with a broke neck. It was the best deal they were gonna get. Β
I think they did have to trade him. Β He wasn't going to get the operation they wanted him to get and they weren't gonna let him get the surgery he wantedΒ

We can certainly look back now and realize that Jack was the one that was right. Β Β

Your second paragraph is so inaccurate and I’m saying that with full respect. Just for discussion purposes. There are so many games where he’s let in a goal and then he’s made a ton of incredible saves to keep our team in it.

I’ve just noticed this trend among our fan base to turn on a goalie as soon as he lets one in. I don’t know if it’s because we all wish Hasek would come back because he’s the only guy who could save us from this mess singlehandedly.Β

I do think there are times where it does snowball on UPL, but I would say that’s more rare than what I described. He’s also still young and he has a joke of a team around him. I don’t know if I’m in the minority here, but I truly am very comfortable with UPL and Reimers a solid backup and I’m very confident in Levi to develop over the next couple years in Rochester.

goaltending is legitimately my last concern with this mess.Β

Yup…agree that Jack was right! Β Like everything else in this organization, our team doctors suck as well!

If Eichel was to be believed, he was willing to get healed (surgery) and play to increase his trade value before being traded, but the team decided to shut him down rather than risk it. You never know.... maybe with Granato instead of Krueger, Eichel rescinds his trade request. We'll never know the possibilities of 1C Eichel, 2C TNT, 3C Mitts, and Cozens on a wing.

You might be right. It’s a worry also that this organization can send promising players in the wrong direction. Especially a goaltender who needs to be the most mentally tough.Β
