I am glad I missed this one. Took my wife out. ย  Then we came home and had a FaceTime happy hour call with friends, planning our big trip to Florida. ย All the while I have the game on with volume muted. ย
ย

I saw it, paying half attention, and with no volume. ย  ย  They stink.ย

Oh, there is talent here, but the whole is far less than the sum of its parts. I'm sure a large percentage of these guys could go on to be excellent players in a real hockey organization. But we have a nincompoop GM who doesn't give any consideration to putting a cohesive team on the ice. We have too many redundant pieces, no leadership, and a bunch of guys who have no idea how to win in this league. Then we have a bunch of store brand assistant coaches "coaching" these guys.

It's mind boggling how poorly every segment of this organization is put together, from the owner, to the front office, to the coaches, all the way down to the players. And nothing will change because nobody in charge cares enough to do anything. And we're held hostage by their incompetence.

Iโ€™ve been watching them since 5 years old in 1973 and really pretty consistently. I mean Iโ€™d watch virtually every single game including west coast games. About halfway through the 13 games loss streak i decided it was enough and havenโ€™t watched a second since. Itโ€™s sad, but this joke of a team is not with it and Iโ€™m much happier not investing/wasting my time with them.ย

So in two consecutive gamesโ€ฆ.Buffalo scores an ENG without taking a shot and then the other team score an ENG by the opposing netminder. ย Leave it to the Sabres to be involved in unique, head scratching situations.

Isn't that part of the coaches job?ย
Ruff needs to have a tough conversation with the new GM and Pegula this offseason about who he can win with and who he can't. ย

I'm really starting to wonder about UPL. ย He is good until the first goal gets scored on him and then he can't seem to make that next save. ย  ย
ย

ย

I still think there are 3 things keeping this team out of the playoffs this year.ย  UPL's disappointing play this year compared to last year is one of those 3 things.

Does anyone else think that all of this is so much worse because of the fact that the Bills are now such a well run, top organization and itโ€™s the same owner? It has to heighten the anger and confusion.ย

itโ€™s like โ€ฆ impossibleโ€ฆ

Other than the only explanation being Terry just totally lucked out with hiring McBeane. Itโ€™s the only way this is possible.ย

Not impossible.

Pegula has always thought he knows a lot more about hockey than he does about Football.

When he bought the Bills, he had comments about how he was almost awestruck at how much the coaches know when he sat in meetings (implying he kinda admitted he didn't know a fraction of what they knew). So he lets those guys do their thing.

On the other hand, he THINKS he knows a lot more about hockey so he is way more hands on.ย  Remember him saying how much he loved Erhoff and Ville Leino...his personal opinion...and then they go out and get them.

The Sabres are a lot less well run simply because Pegula is more actively involved, much more deeper in the decision making.

What the heck happened to Thompsonโ€™s wrist shot? I have saved clips of him sniping from outside the circle. Every single shot now is right in the crest of the goalie.

Hes playing hurt. Whatever the injury is (wrist, arm, shoulder), there were a few games he couldn't even take faceoffs it was so bad.

He shouldn't even be playing. If you physically can't take faceoffs, you need some games off.

If Pegula or Kevyn participate in the Rayzor ceremony it's going to end up like Ceucesceu's final address to the Romanian people.

Would Pegula have the guts to participate in the ceremony? ย Part of me thinks he wants to avoid the potential embarrassment from fans if he were introduced (vs. watching from the suite). ย Wouldnโ€™t it be great if the fans shouted in unison to sell the team and fire Kevyn.

You would think after missing the playoffs for 14 straight years he would kind of get the idea that he doesnโ€™t know nearly as much as he thinks he does.

Some people dig in their heels even deeper.ย  When you think you know something, and you start to get outside criticism (fans, fans booing, media), you could either change your ways, or you can do what it appears he is doing....and that is he is saying this will get fixed "his" way with "his" ideas and he's not going to admit he was wrong.

If heโ€™s playing hurt thatโ€™s terrible. Something is clearly off.ย

Nah. ย  He isnโ€™t the problem. ย He isnโ€™t carrying them either, ย but he isnโ€™t the problem. This is not a playoff team. ย

The Sabres in the 21st century - 2000 season to 2024 season:

Playoff appearances:

2001 2006 2007 2010 2011

Advancing beyond the first round in just 2 of them ย ย
ย

Including this year - we will have missed the playoffs 20/25 seasons this century. ย
ย

Weโ€™ve had FIVE playoff โ€œrunsโ€ in the last 25 years! ย FIVE
ย

Got out of the first round just twice. ย
ย

Let that all sink in. ย ย
ย

Itโ€™s unconscionable. ย

Well if that isn't a nail in the coffin I don't know what is.ย

Maybe I'm nitpicking but it really bugged me that Benson was all smiles after scoring with the goalie pulled making it 4-2. As has been said many times a bunch of individuals with individual achievements and they do not understand winning and losing.ย

All so disappointing and pointless.ย

But he can take 100+ mph slappers? You would think that any one of those areas are injured he wouldnโ€™t be that strong on slap shots. Thatโ€™s is massive amount of torque, especially the shoulder.ย

Seems convenient that every year, right when the season goes off the rails we start hearing about Tage โ€œplaying through something.โ€ ย For a player that size he sure does seem to always be injured or they want always want that excuse out there.

If your injured donโ€™t play, if you play stop with the excuses.
