…Those facts all combine to mean Zucker will be a popular name when NHL trade talks intensify in the coming weeks. As of Jan. 1, Zucker is eligible to sign an extension with the Sabres. And that’s something that he’s open to, despite how the team has performed this season.

“I would love it,” Zucker said. “Right now that’s not something that is in my control. For me personally, it’s something I would be very interested in. If that time comes we can have that conversation.”

On the one hand, what else is he supposed to say to a reporter?

But on the other hand, we need more guys like him and not less. Sign me up for a short term extension for market value.

Exactly. Every UFA player is positive with the place they're playing and excited to help them win.

A good GM would take Zucker up on his word because he'll be middle 6 capable for the next 3 seasons. A cheap owner operating on EEE might not.

I am shocked as to why he would do this.  He can always come back in the off season.

He could have said something more neutral along the lines of "Right now that’s not something that is in my control" and leave it at that.

He's played for 3 different teams in the last year and wants some stability. He has 2 kids and is divorced, his wife is from Minnesota, so idk why Buffalo but if he wants to be a 50pt guy again next year and support the kids, I am good with him.

Maybe he shines in no pressure, no expectation environments.

Who the hell wants to sit in a room with MacKinnon, McDavid, or Marshand yelling at you all the time?

People are people. After a certain age you want security and knowing where you are going to be rather than moving again.

They won't extend or re-sign him. Can't have him blocking the kids next year. Because the keys to an endless "rebuild" is to continuosly to stock the roster with young guys.

You've proven to be shocked by anything positive directed towards the Sabres, so not surprising that you're struggling.

By the "thumbs down" reactions, maybe my sarcasm didn't translate to the typed word. lol
