Carolina and Colorado negotiated about the deal behind Rantanens back. Carolina was the big losers in that trade as it seems and Rantanen is back in west to make sure Colorado doesn't get another cup. Karma.

I doubt it. I honestly don't think Norris moves the needle much either way.

I feel this way too. Sort of odd for a trade.

It very well may end up that one team benefits way more, but my immediate reaction is that my overall feeling about the composition of our team today is exactly the same. Especially when you add the two signings

even a non run back from Adams feels like a run back haha

Why is Colorado supposed to let Rantanen in on any trade plans?

I wonder if Dallas would want Jokiharju with Heiskanen on IR. Or even Samuelsson.

Please let it be both.

So, Carolina ultimately moved Marty Necas for an undersized 3C and what will likely be 2 late firsts? And they're in "win now" mode? Ouch.

Coyle to COL, Mitts to BOS, and more items to be figured out. Coyle fits for the bottom 6 playoff push.

Is Mittelstadt the top 6 center that Boston has needed for 2 years to replace either Bergeron or Krejci?

I mean have you watched his career play out at all? He was going to be good. It was going to happen in Colorado… It did not he is just the same guy he was here most of the time.

Because they're a serious hockey organization with a competent front office. Unlike the Sabres.

Let's not bring Buffalo into this.  I don't think very many teams would do as much as they have this year.  I feel like only Toronto has done this level of in-season overhaul in recent years.  But this one feels far less forced than what the Leafs did a few years back.

I think on a team with cup aspirations, Mitts is a 3C who can occasionally move up a line. Krejci might be a reasonable analog. He isn't in Bergeron's league.

Interesting. If Adams traded for a player only to dump him a year later, we wouldn't be calling him competent.

My point being, serious hockey organizations...that know how to win...identify soft spots and move aggressively to fill them. The Sabres roster is largely one big soft spot because they are not serious about hockey. They implemented a rebuilding strategy centered around adding "skilled" forwards and puck moving defensemen with no consideration given to how the sum of the parts equal a good hockey team.
