Unless of course, this is exactly what they want. Of course, they are normally picking in the bottom 10 of the first round, and those picks are.....over-rated by most. Normally you don't get someone to contribute in a meaningful way from those picks for 4-5 years after they are drafted. And in the past 10 years, I can only find 3 guys who have even scored over 150 career goals from that part of the draft and can remotely be considered top-2 line players..Tage, Konecny, and Boeser. Even those guys you had to wait years to get what you wanted out of them, and that is about 3 out of 100 guys (maybe there is a good D-man in there I missed, but quicly browsing the draft, nothing really stood out to me) Quote
Flashsabre Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Rantanen with 6 points in 12 games for Carolina and told them he won’t agree to extension before deadline. What a disaster. Will probably move him before tomorrow. Doubt thy get a Necas, Drury+ offer for him. Quote

Sounds like institutional arrogance where they just assumed they'd be able to get him to sign an extension without any assurances. Hope they get burnt, they deserve it. Quote

If he doesn't agree to an extension before the deadline with Carolina or anyone else, he basically becomes a rental. Who wants a rental? teams who think they have a shot to go deep in the playoffs. Isn't that Carolina? Yeah, you kinda got screwed if you thought you can sign him, but you are in this..you are in position to make a cup run. Even if you got burned by this, why wouldn't you keep him and treat him as a rental? Odds are anyone you trade him will give you a return that is 'rental player' quality. Quote

My guess its because they subtracted Necas to get him If Rantanen walks and they don't win the Cup; they will have weakened their NHL team as a whole for nothing. Quote

General [Manager], I said to him, "Sir, give me one division retention and I will take that hill make that trade." And he said nothing at all, he stood there, he stared at me. I said, "General [Manager], give me one brigade RFA, and I will make that trade." And General Manager put his arms behind him and blinked. So I said, "General [Manager], give me one UFA, and I will make that trade!" And he said nothing! He just stood there... Effectively, Efficiently, Economically! I threw down my sabre in front of him! We could have done it, sir. A blind man should have seen it. Quote

Could this be a sign that Terry no longer trusts Adams to decisions for the team and will replace him after the season? Maybe? Probably just wishful thinking on my part. Quote

Drury played a big role in their system too. I’m sure it was owner driven and the thought was he would come in, light it up with fellow countryman Aho and want to sign a big contract. Didn’t work out and they are in another sticky situation after Guentzel walked last season. Quote
