I haven’t watched a game since they lost that lead to the avalanche in December. Even though they won last night I can’t bring myself to watch highlights . I’m in a bad toxic place with this team.

They are what their record sez they are.  Amazingly, they are only 3-1/2 games out of a wildcard spot.  The whole bottom of the Eastern Conference is pretty meh.

The Sabres are basically one 13-game losing streak out of the playoffs.

How about giving the opposition some credit. Every play the opposition makes is not going to be neutralized. He was positioned where he was supposed to be.  In general, Samuelsson played solidly. He played the way he needed to play.

The crowd most assuredly knew, especially when the puck was in the Sabres end for such a long period of time and each time the Sabres had a chance to do ANYTHING with it they managed to flub a pass, mishandle the puck, or simply play it straight to a Caps player.

The one thing you definitely see while being at the game is what is happening outside of the camera view and it was even uglier than what you see in the camera view. They are not a strong team, mentally or physically. Absolutely not surprise to anyone here.

After the Sabres first goal the scoreboard read 999 - 0 for the Sabres.  It took them awhile to figure out how to hit the +1 button instead of the -1 button. I have a picture of when it said 995-0. I figured they couldn't possibly blow that lead right?

The KBC ice still leaves a lot to be desired. It's incredible how the puck bounces there. It's not just the Sabres who have all the problems. There stretches of time near the end of periods where both teams had issues with the puck.

But they are 1-0 when I visit. They tend to win more than they lose when I attend a game. I'd offer to take free tickets but I don't think I can handle the woobirds in person. We had two of the incredibly annoying ones behind us last night. I wanted to smack the everloving crap out of them. The worst is when others feel the need to chime in.

Oy...it's like one big competition on who can be the most annoying person in the world.

With a few more OT loser points and a few more OT wins this season would have a different feel to what has turned out to be another lost season. There were at least three stupid and excruciating losses (two to Colorado) that would have changed how this season could have been perceived differently. I'm not making excuses because your record is your record. And you are what you are because of this organization's lassitude and incompetence.

 It happens. The 74-75 Capitals somehow won 8 games. The 76-77 Canadians somehow lost 8. I would rather be a 1st place team that scuffled against a basement dweller than the opposite.

No, no issues with mods, almost perfect record on TBD, some mods are very strict there, but probably necessary for all the things they probably read.

 I keep my posts light and humorous when I can. I'm not into arguing and definitely no name calling.

The same thing happened for TBD years back. I couldn't get in until I moved to Idaho. I wonder if it was something with the ISP. 

P.S. You stated the standard isn't very high here, should I consider name calling to lower to that standard?? 😅

Anyways, good to be here! I have read the GDT thread for years after the game is over the next day. The transition of optimism to disparity in a matter of 15-20 pages is hilarious as well as sad. I can't imagine any fan base wittier than Buffalo sports fans. Keep it up!

You are really going to have to use your imagination because this team will never make the playoffs again, but can you imagine what would happen if they were actually winning a playoff with under 5 minutes to go? I missed a W, and an OT, and a shootout.  I occasionally tracked the score on my iPhone and was surprised to see them hold the lead, but not surprised by them losing the lead in the 3rd period.  I'll take the win. 
 

I read the entire thread, it doesn’t have the feel of a win or a well played game.  Happy the home fans saw a win.

I thought the Sabres played an excellent game against a good veteran team. Giving up the lead late, was a bit of a “seen this act before” moment, but in the context of a more normal season, I don’t think it was a big deal; it didn’t feel anything like the Avalanche blown leads. The Sabres were feisty and went hard to the net. 

The Caps, in my view, do not have top-end talent. What they are though is a well constructed veteran team that plays a solid system and doesn’t panic.

I was at the Sabres home opener versus the Kings (after the Prague trip) and the Sabres blew a lead, looked unorganized, and lost.  The threeguys behind me were filled with hate for the team.  They booed loudly for the slightest mistakes and made loud comments laced with profanity.  It was starting to piss me off and I told one of them to settle down, and he did for awhile.  

Walking out of the morgue, some fans were already loudly spewing venom about the team.  Bad place to bring younger kids and a toxic environment for so early in the season.  

The next game I went to was even worse.   I am done going into that place until something changes.  I would rather go to the Harbor Center to watch college hockey or Junior Sabres.

The Sabres did play a good game. Except the bad breakdown the third period with the lead was much better. They just can not seem to go into turtle shell mode and get a stop when they are tired. The best thing about the last few games is the power play coming around. The first unit has some chemistry. Keep it going and things will get better.
