The bold is the way to build a Cup winner.  You have to get in the upper echelon first.  Looking for short cuts won't work because this team doesn't attract the right players.  Once you get to the top tier good players will come here and you can fine tune from there.

A top 8 team in Buffalo, one that is a contender every year, will bring fans back and attract new ones.

Winning games needs to be the priority again.  Not draft picks.

I never understand this idea. You have to draft well, period. You have to do that to get into the top 8 even if you are trading those drafted players away for established players. We will never be Florida or Vegas where the destination draws ppl outright but yes winning draws ppl too. Buffalo acquired all these assets but never decided to turn those assets into something, they just sit on them... forever.

Yes, I also meant trading NHL players for more picks, and then sitting on the picks.  Which is our cycle right now.

I would offer Cozens and Samuelson and Rosen. Idk if that gets it done.

I like it. Probably I like it too much which means it's probably not good enough for Vancouver

here is a thought:

Let's assume they know Zucker wants to go into free agency

Trade him now, while his value is high - get a first rounder for him

add that 1st round pick to to offer to Vancouver.   That's 3 first round players and a 6'4 Dman    Maybe that entices them?

When EP says stuff like this in response to why is there an problem with you and JT Miller, it scares me that we are just getting another talented guy without the DNA to be a player that is part of the solution... maybe its just a sound bite... but I would prefer if he was the one who wanted to win so bad and they were calling him hot headed... jmo

“He’s a skillful player (JT Miller) but he’s, I don’t know if emotional is the right word. He wants to win so bad sometimes he maybe gets too hot-headed, if that’s the right word. He cares a lot, and he just wants to win.”

In fairness, Miller appears to be a next level wanker. And Pettersson is not speaking in his first language. It comes across as Pettersson not having a commitment to winning, but it could just be him trying to diplomatically say: Miller is a (insert preferred expletive).

I have concerns about Pettersson. That he personally doesn’t like JT Miller, is not one of my concerns.

The more I think about it, the more I want Pettersson here if it can be done.

Yeah the drop in production, whatever it is going on with Miller, and the contract are all issues to think about. But if those things weren't there, there is no chance he would be on the market.

I always perceived him as a player I liked. I know its only one game, but I watched in vs the Leafs on Saturday and he played really hard, he hustled, he got in the way of shots, he made some really good defensive plays.

He does not look at all like a perimeter player and he does hustle on plays.  That alleviates most of my concerns.
