Unless we have players that are in almost identical situations.  See Dylan Cozens.  If he’s the centerpiece of the deal, make it happen.  He clearly is either in his own head and may never figure it out here or he got his brain so scrambled in that fight or is such a ***** that one fight has turned him into Derek Roy.

It’s ***** bizarre that the leagues own network has analysts using internet rumors for content.  Like is that really all you have to talk about?

I’m not so sure what’s so bizarre? All national sports networks regularly have insiders discussing trade scenarios.

I haven’t seen it but I’ll take your word

I would argue that keeping Cozens for another year and NOT shipping him out for something of value is also a huge risk that seems unlikely to work out.  If next year he continues his poor play, his value is going to drop like a rock with that contract.  Might as well take a shot with him while he still has value.  If he goes somewhere and returns to the player he was signed to be... I'm happy for him.  But it's getting more and more likely with every passing game that what you see is what you get.

I agree, and it's not even about shipping him out, it's if you can package him for someone like Elias.  I'd rather keep him and take the chance he'll be the player we saw projections of him being vs just another guy.  Elias, what...

The internet schmucks are annoying the ***** outta me.  All they do is keep pushing the narrative that this trade is on the table and it’s Kevyn’s fault if it doesn’t happen. I’m not even sure either team has discussed any of the players they are mentioning.  The “rumor” aka what a bunch of fans made up, has taken on a life of its own and has now landed in the imminent deal status because these guys won’t stop pushing it to get clicks.

Now the entirety of Sabres twitter expects this trade to take place and will blame Adams when it doesn’t.  I have no love for the guy but can we stop acting like anyone has any credible knowledge.  I haven’t seen one thing.  Just attention whores trying to sound the sluttiest.

Elliotte Friedman's podcast today stated the following:

  • Sabres are talking hard with the Canucks about Pettersson; there might be other teams doing the same
  • Rutherford's acknowledgement of the rift between his stars and him saying he will likely have to trade one or both was calculated to prepare his fanbase for a trade that they may not like
  • The Sabres need to make some hard decisions as to which players they are going to move forward with and which ones they are going to move
  • The Canucks have a Miller trade they can make if they decide to take that path

I don't do Twitter, can't comment on what's being made up by its users. But I take Friedman pretty seriously, as in I believe he talks to people, checks into what he's told, reports what seems to check out and doesn't make things up.

The implication from his podcast is that the Sabres are discussing something with the Canucks, and that the Canucks might prefer to do that deal among the options available to them, even though it won't impress their fans. And the roadblock, at this point, is whether or not the Sabres are ready to give up on a player or players that Adams has invested much of his building plan around.

Maybe the Friedmans and the Dregers (who said "Buffalo sources tell me they're in on it and will stay in until they're not") are making things up for clicks. Maybe the Sabres are not in talks for a good, available player they have the resources to acquire

Or maybe Adams is actually trying to do his job and is struggling with reconciling his esteem for his corps with the way they've actually played.

After all, it is — or at least it should be — his job on the line.

Looks like Miller to the Rangers. We can close up this thread.

as I've said many times, only clown franchises trade away a number one center.   Unfortunately the Sabres are the clown, the bearded lady and Sword Swallowers all rolled into one freak show

I was just going to say this. The drama is over

Too bad, Kev. Maybe next time

I don’t like Adams but I find it hard to blame him for not acquiring a player that wasn’t traded

I merely blame him for fielding a terrible hockey team every year

Shut it down... we're not gonna do anything

Do you think the Canucks ever serious about trading him?   They probably just used the idea to try to increase leverage in trading Miller.   "If you don't give us something decent, we will trade the other guy "

Idk. Doesn't really matter. Miller was never coming to Buffalo and Pettersson was a long shot.

But I mean for the record, the narrative would be that had Adams made a proper offer for EP, they’d have made the swap and kept Miller

but it doesn’t even matter to me to debate that. I’m comfortable resting my laurels (among other things) on the results or lack thereof

Here's the thing, ignore this specific trade, Adams has not improved the Buffalo Sabres.

New topic.  Now that the Petterson dream is dead....what's next ??

Bottom 3 finish?  Lose the lottery, pick 4th?  Adams fired? Clown car search for a new GM?  New GM says no FAs want to sign here and players are blocking trades?  Sabres draft a 170lb center in the first and a bunch of left handed defensemen?  Bills lose to the Chiefs in the playoffs?

The possibilities are endless.
