Yes, of course he is, but if he tells them what to do and what he expects and they just don't do it, he basically has no power or options in this environment.

It's not his assistants, it's not his personnel, he's pretty much neutered.

LOL, if your a coach and the players dont listen or do what you tell them, then you have a problem.  A good coach figures out how to communicate and get the players to respond.

Respect is earned, it starts from the very second you are hired.

Respect is earned. It's also a 2-way street and these players don't deserve respect from any coach.

I'm not sure if I admire my son or not. He stayed in his room last night streaming the Sabres and Bills games simultaneously while I only watched the Bills game. He was very excited early on for the Sabres (even though he is sick of them always losing and having never seen a playoff game).

He hates my realism about the Sabres and as I kept not getting excited about a lead or Quinn scoring or anything. He hates when I talk about how "we'll see what the final result is".  Sadly, once again.. my realistic view was right.

I'm done with this team. This should be the last GDT I post in simply because I won't have any knowledge of what happens. Even ESPN does not update me with the final score of the Sabres game because they believe its better if I simply do not know.  I appreciate their consideration for my mental well being.

I’ve missed the last two games and it feels good.

I'm not trying to be funny because it is sad to say. If you have seen any one of the games in this losing streak, you have seen them all. A consistency of distinctive ineptitude. There are short interludes of good play placed within longer interludes of inattentive play. When you have no conviction, you play without conviction. You don't have to be a hockey maven to see it.

Here are your Buffalo Sabres:

If they aren’t going to the dirty areas, find guys that will.

This is weird?  How did they play the game with those boxes all over the ice?

That's so sad to look at.. but what I wonder is how much of it is the players themselves. It certainly feels like their entire game is coached to be perimeter.

Still.. it's sad and that's why they lose. Also because they cannot stop other teams from getting to the front of their own net.

I will be sorely disappointed if Lindy is coaching them to play on the perimeter.

Me too.  I only say this because I routinely watch their cross-ice passes, their long stretch passes and think they are not interested in playing a closer game. The defense continually throws the puck up the ice instead of skating it and then they dump and chase continually.

But yes, I would hope Lindy is not preaching it.  Who knows honestly..

I doubt that he is. This is what happens when you construct a team not meant to play the way you want it to play. It's simply a poorly constructed roster asked to play a particular style of game that most of them are not suited for. It's like building a finesse roster in football and then force them to play a power running game. It's so stupid.

Which brings us back to xG numbers. If your xGF% is 40.8% and you consistently run with that, you will not and I mean WILL NOT, be a playoff team. That makes you a bottom feeder. I don't care about the boxscore last night, all the advanced metrics that we blab about show us 1 very important thing, Buffalo is a bottom 1/3 team in shot quality and hd chance creation. They simply do not get shots from the difficult areas at higher rates compared to their peers.

Well, then he’s not dead man walking, is he?

He was and is.  No coaching candidate who doesn't already own a house in Buffalo was going to sign up to work under Adams.

Many doubted Adams claim that he talked to several coaching candidates before hiring Ruff because they didn't believe he had enough time to talk to that many candidates. However, it is believable if those candidates said no f'n way I'm working for a dead man walking.  Those calls only take 3 minutes.  You can make 10 of those calls in 40 minutes, when you factor in Adams' slow dialing time.

Pegula just is wasting all our time by drawing out the inevitable decision to fire Adams.

That sounds nice but how? Seriously, how?

If the GM rewards mediocrity with big contracts and doesn't make any big moves what control of the country club locker room does any coach have? None. The GM has to give the coach power to sit people and subtract people. He needs options and Ruff has very few. Who will he play if he sits Cozens? How will that be better?

Seriously, you're the coach, what do you do?

I think a 7 page GDT speaks volumes.  They suck and no one cares.

Well I care but they’ve sucked so bad for so long its kind of a low rumble in my gut and I’m afraid to fart kind of care.
