Wednesday's matchup at KeyBank Center (7 p.m., TNT) features two foremost experts on putting on a brave face despite continually getting open-hand slapped.

The New York Rangers have the unenviable record of NHL's worst team over the last 10 games (2-8-0), while the Buffalo Sabres share that dubious dishonor since Nov. 27, losing seven in a row during that span.

Buffalo has lost all four games in its five-game homestand, wrapping things up Wednesday before heading on the road for three. Meanwhile, after starting the season 7-1-0 in enemy rinks, the Rangers enter the game on the back of four straight road losses.

Despite their league-worst 10-game slide, the Rangers are among the Stanley Cup odds favorites. Our Rangers vs. Sabres prediction backs Artemi Panarin to get on the scoresheet.

This feels like a game where the Rangers right the ship. When's the last time a struggling team came into this building and left in worse shape?

We’re not counting the Sabres?

The thing that stinks is that all they had to do was not absolutely throw up all over themselves and they would be in pretty good position.

7 game losing streak, I mean, come on, just don’t suck.

I've reached the point where I can't even muster the energy to make snarky comments.

I'm going to turn this game on tonight and then I'm going to hate myself for doing it.

For those looking for a positive side of things:

Right now 8th in the conference is Philly at 30 points. With a win the Sabres are at 28.

Right now 8th in the conference in terms of point percentage are the Rangers at 29 points in 27 games. If the Sabres win tonight, they will have 28 points in 29 games, and those same Rangers will have  29 points in 28 games.

One regulation win tonight and again, the playoffs look "do-able".

Yeah, if in the last 7, they were 3-4 even (Lets say 3-4 meaning 3-3-1), they would be basically in a playoff spot now.

Yeah, what if...if they did this, if they did that. But the issue behind this is, of those 3 wins, TWO of them, I'd bet if the NHL did winning percentage, the Sabres would have been at 98% to win them.  A 4 goal lead in the 2nd in one, and a 2 goal lead into the 3rd in another, BOTH playing backup goalies.

The way the 7 game losing streak has played out, some of the losses are almost incomprehensible.

Yeah.. the kind of "do-able" that spawned phrases like "beer goggles" and "walk of shame"

Morning skate was cancelled. Ruff to meet with media shortly.

That's an interesting twist.

For tonight, my Sabres fan half wants to hear the palms from the very beginning. Make it heard. Make it known nationally. Enough is enough. Sabres fans, you're as mad as hell and you're not going to take it anymore. (Wrong movie!)  The other half of me wants the Sabres to win going away, continuing to crush the Rangers season into oblivion.

Edit: I hope it's a packed house of constant "Fire Kevyn!" chants, mixed with counting and "We want 9!"

There will be lots of college aged kids from NYC area enjoying great seats at rock bottom prices.

Lindy Ruff said Mattias Samuelsson will be available to play for the Sabres tonight. Ruff said he cancelled the skate this morning because he wants the Sabres to "save everything they've got for tonight."

Shocker nothing important or meaningful.

I am glad it was nothing.

I will be looking to see what "everything they got" looks like tonight.  Both teams are on losing streaks and TNT should have some interesting takes on it.

Wouldn't want to overdo it in practice.  No excuse for a sluggish start tonight.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

Today is the day.

Mark this date in Sabres history as the day the franchise resurrected itself from the depths of hockey hell, and began it's march forward towards Stanley Cup glory.

Didn't you post that last game?

You have been quite optimistic lately.

I just want them to get 2 points tonight.
