It’s not the points so much as the number of teams between the Sabres and the WC (initialism intended). Particularly when those teams all have a knack for picking up loser points.

I was thinking about how long it’s actually been since the Sabres were actually a good hockey team.  I decided to think about it from a family perspective.  
 

The last time the Sabres were good my youngest daughter was still in middle school.  Now they are college grads with advanced degrees, married, home owners and my oldest is expecting her first kid.  
 

Basically,  the last time the Sabres were good was a lifetime ago.

And in a league where half the teams make the playoffs every year. The statistical improbability of missing 14 straight years is astronomical. But here we are, with no end in sight.

(That's a NY Jets joke, but it also works with for the Sabres)
