JP51 Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 Interesting... wonder if this means Dahlin is out for a while... Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 Long overdue. Time to start seeing if any of the older prospects can help. He can't be worse than the garbage currently playing defense for the Sabres. Quote

Pimlach Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 Wondering if Ryan Johnson will play? Or will he back up the back up, like Kozak. Quote

Avs were too. I think many of the Sabres did also. I kind of hoped they would score another goal or two, but they hardly even had any shots on that bad goalie 1 minute ago, Pimlach said: Huh? Carmel Corn Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 I hope he plays and does so well that one of our other top 4 becomes a trade piece…..ex. Power. Quote

He will play well for a game or two. Normal teams bring up prospects and get a small burst of help. But what about in a month or two when his play normalizes? Ryan is a 6 foot tall version of Bryson. He moves the puck and can pass. Plays with head up. Not particularly physical. He could pair with Clifton on third group. He could be a good player someday. 1 Quote

If you could not see that the guy that plays 25 minutes a night was out, or hear it, or eventually notice the defensive pairings, then you are probably drunk, or stoned, or both, or you don’t follow the team. Which is fine by me. The team had everyone bracing for a collapse in the 3rd. The one minute “power play” set the tone. Quote
Porous Five Hole Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 (edited) Also, Muel & Greenway are on the ice for the morning skate. They probably won’t play, but good news on Greener Edited December 5 by Porous Five Hole 1 Quote
Jorcus Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 The Amerks played last night so I can't see Ryan Johnson being in the lineup tonight. Even if he does get in it will probably be a 7 -10 min of ice time game. Before we declare him a replacement for anybody would like to see him score at least 1 goal in the AHL. Quote

We don’t need him to score goals; there is plenty of that on the backend. We need someone to play a strong defensive game and clear the front of the net. Ryan Johnson looked decent before getting sent down, hopefully he brings what this team needs (if he plays) 1 Quote

Hoping he's only out a couple of games, because am not convinced they can cover for his absence any longer than that. BUT if he's going to play like he did the 1st 3 weeks of the season coming back in 2 games would rather they hold him out longer to actually get him back at 90%+. Sucks that the issue is back spasms as that'll be something that could flare up at pretty much anytime. 1 Quote
mjd1001 Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 I have very little ability to know exactly what certain D-men are 'assigned' to do in the modern NHL, so it is hard to evaluate them, especially outside of the top 2-3 on your team. With that said, I didn't have much of a problem with Johnson's game last year. If we look at him as having a ceiling at most as a 2nd pair guy, then I'm not looking at how many goals he scores or can he QB the PP. Instead, does he not make mistakes and is he at least competent in most aspects of the game. For those 2 thing when we watched him last year, I think he was fine in those areas. Look, He's not going to replace Dahlin, but eventually, does he/can he make guys like Jokiharju and/or Samuelsson expendable or at least not needed as much? My hope is yes. If you are moving on from Jokiharju, lets see if Johnson can take that role and perform just as well for less money, and as he gets experience maybe gets the same money but is a bit better/more reliable. 1 Quote
