It is what it is. It’s the same recurring things that usually do us in in critical moments. Our top guys just do not finish games when they have the chances. So we’ll sit here and look at it and say we’re not as good as the Jets but we had multiple chances to close the game with our top guys in perfect position. I think we can definitely say we have a true number one large goaltender for the future, which is great. Really happy with UPL. I think the biggest issue is that our again supposed top weapons are not clutch. That’s not gonna fly in the NHL. Jets aren’t very good Id say the are “good” Edited December 6 by Thorner Quote
Pimlach Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 I have to say that its hard to find guys on this team that step up it seems. They replaced Dahlin with Gilbert, and Quinn with Kozak, and both of those guy did ok. We missed Dahlin but Byram is starting to impress me finally. No Sabre could handle that goon on Winnipeg so Gilbert was helpful, and he did ok otherwise Kozak should have had a goal. The goalie interference is a crapshoot and is overcalled. I think Kozak earned another game. We are falling behind while on a home stand. Not good. Quote

ASlugAbove Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 (edited) The Kozak non goal (dumb) is how this team needs to play. It's how EVERY OTHER NHL team plays. Why is it so hard for us to go to tough areas? That's the first goal I've seen us score where we crash the front of the net in forever. Or at least I just don't notice it enough. I'm so sick of them playing so damn passive. Please revert to 2 years ago where we blitzed every team. I fear for Lindy....I was opposed to his hiring. A HUGE part of why was because of where we are at now. I was afraid of this exact scenario. Where we're just a completely broken roster due to Adams and Terry's mismanagement, and he will get cast off and his legacy will go with. He's a straight shooter so he may even have an ugly exit (ie "this org is broken" lingo). If the Lindy experiment doesn't work out this year, the franchise needs complete overhaul. Sale of the team to someone that can shake up this absolute dumpster fire. I'd say were more than half way there.....sadly Edited December 6 by ASlugAbove 1 Quote

... Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 (edited) Too many of these players were not developed with the understanding that the game requires grit and a constant sense of urgency. Too many float when they should be engaged. The "too many" I'm referring to are the players in the top 6 and top 2 pairs; the same players relied upon to perform in those moments when someone needs to perform. KC Scouts Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 The conclusion I am coming to with this bunch is that the talent is overrated. We just aren't that good. Doesn't matter who the coach is (or who the crappy assistants are). This is not a playoff team or much of a team is general. We will finish in about the same spot as last year. Adams has failed, The Rebuild (what is it 3.0 now?) is failing. Back to the drawing board and add another 3-4 years onto your playoff hopes....F*** 1 Quote

Carmel Corn Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 Adams has truly wasted all the draft capital and cap space he’s had over the last 4+ years. I’ve never heard a reporter ask him what his vision of a team makeup is. I’ve only heard sound bites like having players who want to be here or other gibberish. I’m not so sure he even knows what he wants…other than so-called talented but softy players who are young. Pure incompetence at the helm 1 1 1 Quote

ska-T Palmtown Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 I had to step away after the first period - reading the rest of the game day thread is a hoot! The melt downs, the name calling ... the PANIC in the posts. Gold. 1 Quote

The “core” on this team may mostly be high end 1st rounders but they are not top end talent. Even though they’re on the younger side, we’ve seen their best. It’s either poor scouting/drafting and/or poor coaching. I tend to lean towards poor scouting/drafting. They will be career underachievers at best and there isn’t much in pipeline that would suggest a bright future. Quote

If I am going to look on the positive side, and yes, this may be a stretch.....This roster, with Tage being healthy and Dahlin not playing hurt, is enough to 'get' to the playoffs. I guess you can say that with any team (pick out a couple or handful of players that if things were different, the team would be different). But I think they are close to being in the 10th-12th best team in the league with 4 things: 1.) Tage is healthy. If he is you are getting 45-50 goals out of him. 2.) Dahlin is healthy. When he is playing 100% un-injured he is a top 10-15 D-man in the league. 3./4.) Cozens and Quinn. If they were replaced with journeymen who don't make mistakes you would be probably in a playoff spot now...If they would stop making dumb defensive plays and be on a pace for 40 goals between them (what you EXPECTED out of them going into the season), you are fighting for 3rd in the division. You need luck to get all of the above and the Sabres are not getting that. But yeah, they aren't super far away. Quote
OverPowerYou Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 The bills will win a Super Bowl before the Sabres make the playoffs. Think long and hard about that. What is the Sabres reason for existence again ? Quote

rickshaw Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 I’m totally shocked at how BAD Quinn has been. Cozens will be fine, when he’s traded. He’ll fit right in Vancouver. But sadly that is what he’s supposed to do for us. Quote

This is the specific reason why they’re also fairly unlikable as a whole. Because there’s no reason these guys shouldn’t be playing with their hair on fire every damn night. That in itself is a turn off for a fanbase. I still believe it’s an issue with emotional/personality profiling of prospects. That’s why it’s carrying over regimes. We keep picking bridesmaids not the bride at the top of every draft. We need to find the star, who wants to be a star in star moments. Our guys like to be star adjacent, you know, have a good time with the boys but not want to shoulder the pressure of delivering glory when it’s required. Edited December 6 by K012010 1 2 Quote
rickshaw Posted December 6 Report Posted December 6 Imagine what Dylan Cozens would be had he not acted like a spoiled brat and not picked on the toughest kid in school, last year. Cozens will never be what he truly could have been because of that stupid, ill-advised fight Quote
