After it was 4-0, I said to them..they'll put the backup in and we'll lose. That's how confident I was in our incompetence. At 3-0 kept looking over at the Avs bench to see if Wedgewood was gearing up. Nope; good. At 4-0 saw Wedgewood getting ready. Said to the people around us, hope that 4 goals is enough. Wedgewood is usually kryptonite for the Sabres and they seem to rarely score after chasing a starter. Shades of the Pittsburgh game. Unfortunately, along with Dahlin's back spasms, they needed Giorgiev to stay between the pipes for at least 1 more. Maybe if they could've gotten more than a minute beyond the ineffective PP to start the 3rd before giving up goal 2 they could've withstood Dahlin being out. But boy did the mood in that building change wtih that 2nd goal. Sad that we're hoping for OT with only 18 minutes to go and a 2 goal lead. Quote

The Jests are practically guaranteed to hit 14 years this year before the Sabres do ... so for a few months, we won't hold the longest active playoff drought in major North American sports!! Odd that the NFL is the only one that does not include any teams from our pals to the North ... Quote

This is particularly bad to me because it’s an indication of further “weakness” in the psyche that goes beyond the normal “we have to play better blah, blah, blah stuff”. The normal stuff just tells me they’re LAZY. Being paralyzed with PANIC means they are literally afraid to play the game the right way…..very BAD Yep, panic. Not just a skill, ability, coaching, management issue...but a psychological problem. Mentally weak. No confidence. Beat down. No veteran leadership to pull these youngsters up. Very alarming. Quote

After all, they did choose to go all in on a 40+ year old head case of a QB, let him play GM and continue to double down until both the coach and actual GM were fired and the QB is saying he plans to leave at season’s end. 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted December 5 Report Posted December 5 I think that game where Columbus scored 9 goals was maybe the worst. What stood out in this one was the complete inability to do anything in the last 2 periods though. Avs just did whatever they wanted and chipped away until they had the lead and then held it. This is why the "panicked" rhetoric is bs. They didn't just try too hard and make bad errors, they were just feckless. Quote
