hopeleslyobvious Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 In his expert analysis we could never beat Ottawa because we didn't make any trades. I wonder how he feels now?
elcrusho Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 that was true in the regular season but WHO CARES NOW WOOOO
BetweenThePipes00 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Holy cow I forgot about that guy ... so no, I never wonder ;)
JujuFish Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 No ToddKaz and no pessimistic DeLuca. How times have changed in such a short time.
hopeleslyobvious Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 Also, where's the guy that wanted the Sabres to pick up another goaltender at the deadline. Remember, he said Miller would fall apart, and so would Biron in relief, and we didn't stand a chance unless we picked up someone like Cujo? No thanks!
Knightrider Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 No ToddKaz and no pessimistic DeLuca. How times have changed in such a short time. DeLuca vs. Toddkaz: nothing like Todd calling DeLuca Thirdliner... ;)
Taro T Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 DeLuca vs. Toddkaz: nothing like Todd calling DeLuca Thirdliner... ;) Oh, those were heady times!
BRH Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Don't forget about the folks who said, after an early-season goal drought, that Drury wasn't worth his salary and had to get rid of his "New England country club attitude" or whatever tripe it was they said.

It evolved into, "lets trade for 14 Goalies", man those were the days.
deluca67 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 No ToddKaz and no pessimistic DeLuca. How times have changed in such a short time. Hey I haven't gone anywhere. I've been here all the time. I haven't changed. The circumstances have. As the season unfolded and my concerns were washed away I had nothng to be "pessimistic" about. I'm not foolish enough to ignore the success the Sabres have had. I am not that concern with being right. I'm just another slug trying to express an opinion. Peace ;)

Does that make you pessimistic?
Knightrider Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 DeLuca's been on board saying Regier should get GM of the year for nearly six months... That was was made the Toddkaz so 'interesting'- he went after DeLuca first for his pessimism and later for his optimism...
deluca67 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 All I have to say is two things. 1) I needed to have things proven to me. I didn't want to hear how great the Sabres were I need to see it first. 2) I have given up gallons of blood, sweat and tears over this team since the early 70's. So if i was a bit coarse earlier in the season, after a lockout and years of no playoffs well then you can call me what you want. As far as ToddKazz? What did happen to him? I hope he wasn't "banned" because people didn't like his views. Even if you thought he was a jerk I hope everyone did at least respect his right to have an opinion? Peace.

DR HOLLIDAY Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I skipped coming to the boards for awhile during the season, because I got sick of all the negative commnents...........I really love how this team plays hockey and I always could see the spark inside of Miller, He is really playing well. I remember the comments people were making about Drury and Grier. Those 2 guys have been fantastic during the playoffs. All the bad mouthing of Campbell and some of the other defencemen. Anyways, bye bye Ottawa.

apuszczalowski Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I must say, up until the playoffs I believed that if the Sabres were upset in the first round Regier should go for not doing anything to help this team at the deadline, and I still feel this way (but since we won in the first round and are now in the third, I obviously don't think he should be fired) I still believe he should have made some type of deal to help the blueline out, cause it would make the games a little less nerve racking to watch (who wouldn't be a little less nervous right now watching another defencemen out there instead of Fitzpatrick), but in hindsight can see how it was a good move to stay put. I won't go crazy and say GM of the year, cause I believe some luck was on his side that the new rules worked out very well for his team.

I think both Regier and Ruff knew the Sabres weren't going to be beaten in the first round of the playoffs. And their record in the second series actually improved over the first. While many of us fans were uneasy about the makeup of the team, they've proven that they knew what they were doing.

See, I don't see it as they knew exactly what they were doing and that this is what they had to do to be successful in the new NHL cause up until the CBA was announced, no one knew what the NHL was going to be.
Rabbit151 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I'm a bit of a cynic too, DeLuca. I've never been sold on Miller, but I said I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. And so far, I have been proven wrong. He is simply getting the job done. It's tough to blindly follow your team and not comment on what you think should and shouldn't be changed. Ultimately, it's like talking about the weather, you can't change it and it can get real boring, real quick. Remember this, you had to search far and wide to find more than a handful of people who gave the Sabres a chance this year. I for one am shocked that they even made the play-offs. They and Carolina were 60-1 odds (only Washington was lower) to win the cup last fall. What the heck, I've been a Sabres fan for over 30 years, I'm enjoying the ride. I think we may come out to Buffalo to party it up if they get to the finals. It'll be tough with having 3 kids and so on but we'll manage.
