In the normal business world or corporate professional world, Benson would be labeled a self starter. as dumb of an analogy as this is perhaps, heโ€™s the only one like that on this team of the young guys. Everyone else that they brought in thatโ€™s young is the type that gets into a group project and allows one person to do all the work and just coasts.

Heโ€™s one of the few that plays with a chip on his shoulder, like he has something to prove, while all of them do (have something to prove).

Thompson is not elite. Only paid that way.

$7m per year is NO WHERE near elite pay.ย ย

There are about 100 contracts in the NHL right now at $7m per year or more...so that means there are probably 90-100 guys getting paid more than Tage.

He hasn't scored in a few games, but to say he doesn't produce to his contract is just garbage. Hes not getting paid a lot in the grand scheme of the league.

He probably out-produces/scores goals a $7 per year deal.

Have to believe they have top draft prospects tested and assessed for those attributes.

Comes down to Desire.ย

Think multi year big money contracts with guarantees given to these kids kill desire in all but the exceptional professional athletes.ย

The NHL and player agents are killing the golden goose.ย

ย

Expansion.

Expansion actually has an opposite effect on the spread of high end talent for hockey. Players gravitate to markets with tax incentives, prestige and comfort of living. Buffalo along with many other teams have to luck in to their franchise players in most cases.

Take a look at the contenders year after year. Parity doesn't exist.ย

He's tied for about 100th in salary in the league. He's not paid like an elite player.

But... he does need a top-flight winger because JJP is still way too inconsistent for a 1st liner (or even better, to have an elite center playing in front of him or on his line, you know, like an Eichel).

If Buffalo continues to take the night off, then Lindy needs to get their a$$e$ back to Buffalo tonight and make the boys shovel snow at Highmark stadium all night. ย Benson can watch from the press box sipping a hot chocolate.

They didn't need luck. They purposefully drafted 2nd overall twice (and poor luck had them finish 2nd instead of first one time), and then drafted 1st overall twice as well. They had and in some cases still have their franchise players.

Sorry, but Dahlin is not a franchise defenseman. He's good, but not franchise changing good. Power? Yikes, not him either.

If โ€œAppertโ€ is uttered more than 2, 3 times tops in a GDT, itโ€™s not a good sign for the in-game performance of the sabresย

This franchise is starting to make me feel "Apperthetic". Does that count?

I don't have a huge problem with the play of Power and Dahlin and any of the D-men right now. Sure for $11m per year I want Dahlin to score more but they aren't the reason this team is losing their games.

Quinn, Cozens, the lack of production lately from Peterka and Thompson....that is where the problem lies right now.

Perhaps, but I would argue that Cozens is worse and possibly Power as well. ย Power forgets that heโ€™s paid to play defense. ย Finally, is Dahlin really worth $11 million?!?!

None of them are worth what theyโ€™re paid. If they were, theyโ€™d be a lot hungrier and play a lot harder.

Capitalism and market forces. Supply and demand. Only so many hockey players capable of playing an 82 game schedule at the NHL level. Owners, media money, franchise fees, corporate boxes, and season ticket sales fuel the ecosystem.

None of it involves player desire or fan entertainment.

Perhaps, but I prefer my defensemen to play DEFENSE firstโ€ฆ.which they donโ€™t do very well IMHO

Tuch is 28 and has had 4 playoff runs and 66 (SIXTY SIX!) playoff games played. (Cup finals and 7th games)

Zucker is almost 33, had been in the playoffs 9 different seasons with 52 games played.

McLeod is 25, has played in 4 playoff seasons with 56 games played (Cup finals and 7th games)

Greenway is almost 28 and has been in the playoffs 4 different times.

Clifton is 29, 5 different years in the playoffs, a deep cup finals run and 44 career playoff games.

Malenstyn and Kubel have been in the playoffs (Kubel with 30 career playoff games).

ย

They have vets who have been through the playoffs. They have guys who have experienced the playoff runs.ย

The younger guys (now not-so-young for many of them) need to produce. At this point 'youth' and 'lack of veterans' really isn't an excuse anymore.

ย

ย

Youth and inexperience are not advantages when it comes to winning in the NHL.ย

The last three games demonstrate WE ARE NOT SKILLED ENOUGH to finesse the puck around bigger or more talented teams with good goaltenders.

It shows me how pathetic we really are....

Someone wake up Adams, itโ€™s time to start shaking things up and make a big trade. The season can still be saved if he wanted to try.ย

The only way he can save the season is if he QUIT his jobโ€ฆ.otherwise, he is incapable of making

any hockey moves to achieve this.
