2024-25 Trade Rumors and Speculation

Yep I looked online and no one else was mentioning the Larkin story.

Speculation only, not a rumor. The Predators are in full collapse and are going to need to punt on their season soon, so I did a quick perusal of their roster to see if there was anyone without trade protections/movement clauses that fits a Sabres need. 

Luke Schenn - RHD. Sadly, it looks like he's cooked based on TOI. He wouldn't be able to be Power's partner any longer and would just be Erik Johnson 2.0 and be a 7th d-man. Speaking of --- you know who is still playing and is a 6/7th in Philly? That same washed-up Erik Johnson. 

Ahh, but look at that.

ROR. A 2-way center to allow McLeod to move up the lineup and push Cozens to wing. The hilarity of a ROReturn would be amazing. Two years remaining after this one at 4.5M, and while he'd be slower, as a d-zone 3C, and potential late-game offensive zone faceoff guy with a top line, I think it'd be a fair fit. Ruff would like him, methinks.

ROR would never come here. He'd probably retire if the Preds tried to trade him here and I am sure Pegula would not allow it anyway. He lost his love for hockey in this city. No chance he wants to come back.  Personally I wouldn't want him on this roster, even for free, he's a headcase and this roster has too many of those already.

II think the only thing the Sabres do will be to package two roster players for a 26-29 year old roster player from another franchise who is under contract for at least 2-3 years.

Probably not enough.  Start the conversation.  If they counter with Dahlin instead of Power, fine by me!

  I agree that he would never play for Buffalo again, but you will never hear anyone from the Blues organization say this.  You will hear "First guy at the rink for practice, last guy off the ice at practice, great teammate, great all around player, clutch performer, dedicated ... "

I think I have a better chance of dunking a basketball on a 12 foot net while giving you a piggy back ride than ROR comes back to the Sabres assuming he has a no trade clause... if he doesnt he literally might retire or refuse to report. He escaped the abyss of eternal stench I cannot see him coming back to it... ever.... like even when they play the Sabres in Buffalo he might be a volunteer scratch LOL...

I wouldn't expect anyone from the Sabres organization to call ROR a headcase either. Organizations will say nice things even if they are not true. The Blues can say whatever they would like but they ultimately dumped him in his UFA year to Toronto who then let him walk to Nashville where there's not much winning going on.  As miserable as the Sabres are, Nashville still sits in the basement with a team that has Saros, Josi, Forsberg, ROR, Stamkos, and more.

I mean.. looking at Nashville I almost want to feel good about the Sabres.  But not quite.

Nashville is an interesting case on how hard it is to get good when you're not. They over achieved last year and fooled themselves into thinking they were a few veterans away and then this year a bunch of those over achievers trailed off and the old guys are over the hill and many things fell apart at once. They over stepped and rushed it and blew it. 

However, since they added these guys as free agents if they can tear it down and flip them for picks and prospects they could accelerate a rebuild with their plan B. What they do from this year to next will be interesting to see. 

I'm more interested in Philly. Last year it looked like the teardown Torts kicks everybody out of town plan was going to crash and burn. They also had the Carter Hart thing to deal with and had no goaltending. This year with the addition of their superstar things look like they are changing. Still have issues, but the core structure looks solid. I wouldn't be surprised if they make the playoffs before the Sabres.

They were scouting Detroit before. Maybe nothing happens, but there is clearly something being discussed.

Well, with the coaching change there may be some momentum toward a roster change.

Pretty sure it wouldn't excite whoever got moved. I suspect it would involve picks/prospects though. At least on one side.

Well, Buffalo can’t score on the power play and that’s the only way Detroit can, so maybe? I can almost hear the rumors…

Seriously, though, it would be pretty ballsy for both teams to trade with someone that you plan on competing with for the next ????? years. Maybe KA did listen to BB.

The two teams don’t seem like a good fit. Up front, the only player Detroit has who does not have trade protection who I would actively want, is Raymond; that’s not happening. Unless Detroit is wanting to reset their forward pipeline by trading us Raymond for one or two of our young forwards++ or something like that (seems ridiculous to even type it though). 

Rasmussen is the obvious guess. He has three years left after this at $3.2. He turns 26 in April. Is he basically a Greenway replacement? I don’t watch enough Red Wing games. On a Red Wing message-board, Samuelsson for Rasmussen was suggested. I’m not a fan of the idea. 

Also, knowing Adams, these last two games have served to reinforce his views on patience and on not putting pressure on or blocking kids. Last night we looked like the 22-23 Sabres: young, talented, and playing without the burden of expectations. The middle two lines were fun to watch and there is a world where patience pays off, I think. It didn’t get us close to the playoffs this year though, and next year will be a hope-shot at best.
