Tonight's Battle on Ice:

Buffalo Sabres Face Off Against the San Jose Sharks

Pack your bags, Sabres fans, because tonight, our team is taking their talents to the City of San Jose for a showdown with the Sharks! It's the Buffalo Sabres versus the San Jose Sharks in what promises to be an aquatic-themed battle on the ice.

Puck Drop: 8:00 PM EST (actually more like 8:10 PM).
Watch Live: Tune in via MSG-B, NBCSCA, WGR550.
Current Standings: Sabres 10-9-1 / Sharks 6-11-5.

When: Tonight, under the Californian stars, when the time zones confuse everyone but the players on the ice.

Where: SAP Center, affectionately known as the Shark Tank, where the Sabres will attempt to turn the tide in their favor.

Why Watch: Because it's not every day you get to see if our Sabres can out-swim actual Sharks. Plus, there's that whole thing about hockey being a beautiful, chaotic ballet of speed, skill, and sometimes, sheer luck. So, whether you're in San Jose cheering from the stands or watching from the comfort of your living room, let's show our support.

Let's hope our Sabres can keep the Sharks at bay and maybe, just maybe, show them that in hockey, the biggest fish isn't always the one with the most bite.

(Disclaimer: Viewing this game might result in sudden urges to start chanting "Let's Go Buffalo" and possibly considering a career in professional ichthyology to understand the Sharks better.)

In their last eight games the Sabres are second in the NHL with a points pct of .750, they're third on the power play at 30.8%, they're fourth on the penalty kill at 89.7% and they're fourth in goals averaging 3.50 per game!

Let’s keep it rollin and not take the Sharks lightly!

This earlier start sucks.. because now I have a gap between the game and the F1 race.  Although to be fair, I watched last night and then F1 qualifying and then fell asleep on the couch... I think I'm probably in hot water in the homestead as the wife woke me up at 6am to tell me to get the hell off the couch.

She's not home now, not sure if she's ever coming back as I have not heard from her yet.

(That's a joke, I know where she is although it's only an assumption she's coming back.  But she does really love our dogs and they are still here.)

Go Sabres.  Find a way.  People wanted them to get most of the points on this trip but I am sure they figured 2 of those points would have come against the Sharks. So the expectations are there. Find a way.

And when the Sabres win tonight, the Sharks will only be 0.667 in their last 9.

#### Dumbo D'oh and his big night.

Go, go, Buffalo.

It wasn't clear in the initial post, is Jeff Skinner slotting into the line-up tonight?

Gotta imagine Reimer will be getting his first start. Quinn was showing signs of life yesterday, I think tonight might be his first goal against a goalie. Hopefully Tage is also back, if that's the case I'm guessing you keep Kulich and sit Lafferty?

Expecting @mjd1001 is onto something with the possibility of UPL getting the start tonight.  He had a relatively light work load, has only played twice in the past week, and will have 3 days of rest before the Sabres next game.

Also, would expect Aube-Kubel to be the player coming out of the lineup should Thompson be ready to go; but hopefully we shall see.

With UPL coming off an injury, I would give him the night off.

Forgot about that.  (The way Ruff had talked about taking him out of the Habs game, made it sound like it was an illness and forgot they'd said it was a minor injury that held him out of the next 2.  So, still had that thought of it being an illness in the back of the brain.)

I actually thought it was Ruff trying to help UPL save some face by taking the heat himself. That’s why the condition was so ambiguous.

I thought the same thing last night.  Quinn was pretty aggressive and decisive last night in creating offense.  His wrister, which is his money-maker, is still off kilter though.

Still I think he's on the right track back to being an effective player.

I'd be pretty happy to tune in tonight and see TT and UPL playing.

OTOH, this is probably the right call if it was any kind of muscle strain or similar.

Is no one going to comment on how bad AI is at hockey? The ref has a stick? TF?

Seriously.  It's like it confused the Snarks with the Loafs.

We all know this, but the Sabres have won 6 out of 8 and are now at DeLuca .500, which is a real and important thing.

Here comes a test of their mental toughness, as they start another game about 20 hours after the end of their previous game, this one against a team they can beat if they bring it.  Will they be pleased with themselves, take their foot off the gas and reveal themselves again to be not serious people?  Or will they come out like a serious, hungry team?

I am very in tune with this situation

My worry isn't whether they will come out as a hungry team or not take the opposition seriously. It's hoping that on a back-to-back game their legs are fresh enough and not too fatigued to play a fast-paced game. With the upcoming second game, you never know whether it will look like they are skating on ice or mush. It's not so much a worry about the players' attitude as it is a physical status for the players.
