I think if Trump and Musk were smart the would have directed USAID to give billion to a lab in Wuhan to create a virus that will decimate the world. Then pharmaceutical companies could have made billions developing vaccinations while kicking back millions to republican Senators, congressmen and representatives closest to them. Choosing to get rid of fraud, waste and abuse instead was a real missed opportunity. Orange man bad.

Our political system is *****. The two parties cannot keep going to war with each other.

Apparently state’s right are a one way street?

Do you know is states have the discretion to not enforce federal laws? I don't know. Personally, I think as long as states don't actively impede federal agencies from doing their job. The whole thing sucks. Interesting times.

Kremlin could be heard cheering from Moscow.

She’s been peddling her pro Russian propaganda for a while now. A couple of long time intelligence officials I’ve known for years are genuinely concerned over her nomination today.

I don’t know.  There is precedent with marijuana laws though.

I do mostly agree that as long as they don’t interfere……

I am reminded of sheriffs not enforcing laws they didn’t agree with, like gun laws and covid restrictions.  No right wing fervor was noted over law and order then, so I’m not seeing where there should be fervor over this.

Because Trump is a petty and vengeful man?

The 10th Amendment usually does take precedence in favor of the states, thus the difference in drug laws, etc. The supremacy clause comes into play when laws conflict and the federal law always prevails. With regard to this lawsuit over immigration in NY, the federal government is prohibited from using states as the instrument to enforce them and I don’t see the conflict in the actual laws, but it will be interesting to see how the state law that says the DMV must inform people when their information is requested by federal authorities, is challenged.

Without a doubt.

This, I was not aware of.

Me neither. I was thinking the lawsuit is a tactic to get Hochul to use state and local law enforcement to round up illegals?  Maybe not.

I can’t really think of another reason.

If you are looking for inefficient use of taxpayer money by the federal government, here may be a good example.

Just to be clear, that doesn’t mean the states can’t freely give their assistance in federal law enforcement if authorized to do so. They just can’t be ordered to by the feds.

I am unsure if it was for Fogel, but I saw something that a Russian money launderer was released in response. Quick google search shows it was for Fogel and perhaps a 2nd person? Either way, I usually am fine with these deals. Russia can always get someone else to launder money for them, and probably already did.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/12/europe/russia-citizen-exchange-marc-fogel-intl/index.html

Trump has long been suspected of laundering money for various Russian interests. Indeed, it was Russian money that saved his businesses.

Trump used to boast about how he never used cash to transact business; that it was always smarter to use various forms of credit vs your own money. When American banks would no longer give him loans due to his multiple bankruptcies he had to find other streams of finance. Enter those various Russian oligarchs, Russian mafia, etc. and his business model changed overnight. Eric Trump even boasted that they no longer needed the banks as they now did everything on a cash basis. The old man shut him up quick on that one.

I wonder if those Russian mobsters still have residences in Trump Tower, Unit 63A.

And this is who we elected as our president. Our political system is broken.

I hope for the best but I'll prepare for the reality.

We better hope we don’t have another pandemic with a deadly disease because if we do, we stand to lose more people than we did with the previous one. RFK Jr. is nothing short of a mentally deranged conspiracist totally unfit for the job.

Perhaps he should try a tariff to get compliance?  I hate myself for even joking about these things, but I have to cope.

People could always self-isolate.  Unless we think RFKJr. will force people to group hug.

I mean I hope we don't have another deadly pandemic, period.  I didn't rely on the government during COVID to do what was right for me, I won't need them in the future either.
