I’m saying that trump has always had the bankruptcy option to get himself out of trouble for his failed financial policies, costing tax payers millions. Worst case scenario is that he did it on purpose and didn’t GAF who he was stealing from (I tend to believe that). Best case is that he’s just an idiot and lost other people’s money only to be saved by us. As president, when he runs the country into the ground, his only option will be to wave the flag, (hopefully it will still be an American flag) blame an “other” and go to war.

I agree with you about the bankruptcy. I think it was a purposeful, strategic, sleazy way to get out of paying his creditors. Morally reprehensible in my opinion, but not uncommon or illegal. I don't think he CAN run the country into the ground. I think the last eight years have shown us, especially when the other side of the aisle refuses to work with you, that the president doesn't have the freedom to do much on his own. I thought Obama had a great first term. His second term, not so much. Trump and Bidens term were significantly worse than Obamas 2nd in my opinion.
Weave Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 I’ve wanted to wade into this discussion and give some examples of good things I’d love for him to accomplish, but honestly I just don’t have any faith that the platform Trump has run on will benefit me positively. And certainly won’t benefit my children, and that weighs heavily on me. Tariffs, mass deportations leaving us even shorter on workers than we already are, putting thousands of government workers on the unemployment line, gutting overtime pay rules, pressuring bold moves around economic policy. These all sound like recessionary paths to me. Couple that with policy that will continue the global warming slippery slope, and put even more policy in the hands of corporate robber barons and my children don’t seem to have a shot at the life I had. No room for optimism here. He’s gonna have to show me something I just don’t believe he cares about. I am going to be one miserable mother ***** if this guys plan hurts the economic growth we’ve seen the last 4 years and I have to postpone my retirement. 2

What is so bad that people needed a change? Anyone who thinks the economy isn't good is either not paying any attention to the world, only believes what Trump tells them, or needs it to be true to justify their vote,… or just dumb. (FTR, I've been in TV my entire 30 year career. I've been hearing this Bullshizz the entire time. It was only true once, at the end of W's time in office.) I'm an old white guy (I just got my Ancestry DNA results back. It turns out I'm whiter than even I thought). I'll be fine. How any Puerto Rican could have voted for him is beyond me. After he withheld the hurricane relief money and didn't even know that they were American Citizens, and what was said at his Klan rally, good lord. How any ex-serviceman could have voted for him after the complete disdain and disrespect he has shown them is beyond me. I'm at the George Carlin stage of not giving AF towards anyone who made this happen. 1 hour ago, Weave said: I’ve wanted to wade into this discussion and give some examples of good things I’d love for him to accomplish, but honestly I just don’t have any faith that the platform Trump has run on will benefit me positively. I think we needed a change because Biden showed on national TV that his competency could be questioned, by both parties. Did that change have to be Trump? No, I don't think so, I didn't vote for him. More than half the voters did though so hear we are. I still can't believe Harris lost. I think Obama was a phenomenal president. My previous comment is not so much an indictment against Biden, but acknowledgement of how good I think Obama was, and both men who came after paled in comparison. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the economy, and what effects it, to know if Biden did a good or bad job. I think my comments were specific to mortgage rates. They have more than doubled since I purchased my home, I hope they come back down some. That seems like a reasonable thing to hope happens, regardless of who's responsible or gets credit. Unless you're LGR of course, who'd rather see the country burn than anything good to happen over the next four years and Trump be given credit. 1

Why do you care about mortgage rates if you bought a house? It has nothing to do with your escrow, I mean, unless you have an adjustable rate mortgage? You don’t, do you?
SwampD Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 And the president has absolutely no control of mortgage rates whatsoever, anyway. 1
Weave Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 8 minutes ago, SwampD said: And the president has absolutely no control of mortgage rates whatsoever, anyway. He’s not supposed to. Trump is very vocal in his desire to have a say in interest rates though. @Hank. Interest rates are determined by the the federal reserve. They are an appointed, bipartisan board that uses interest rates to control economic growth. Inflation went high because every country in the world printed and gave out billions of dollars during the covid shutdown to avoid an economic meltdown. Every country in the world knew it would result in inflation but deemd it more important to send out all that money to avoid a collapse. The federal reserve raised rates in the aftermath of this to slow down the resulting inflation. The US actually saw lower inflation than the rest of the industrialized economies. And now that inflation is getting back under control, rates are coming back down. The last thing we need is some yahoo who thinks he knows better than trained, experienced economists mucking it up. 1
Demoted Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 So how much of the Ukraine is Trump going to gift Putin? How long after till China goes after Taiwan and the South Pacific?
LGR4GM Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 (edited) Accusing me of wanting to see the US burn instead of Trump being a good president is the most egregious, heinous, vile and otherwise disgusting sack of ***** insult anyone has ever leveled at me. Edited November 20 by LGR4GM

I had not heard of this and had to Google it, thank you for bringing it to my attention. It seems like a great thing. My only concern is the little bit I've read on line talks about what we are going to do, not what we have already done. I hope Trump, along with a red congress and house, don't ***** it up. My uneducated opinion is America producing our own semiconductors seems like a big deal.

It is one of the most powerful bills in a long time. Gina Raimondo (former governor of Rhode Island) is a badass. As secretary of commerce, she basically brokered it. It does way more than dumbass’ tariffs will ever do to strengthen our country. It’s why Trump or Fox never mention it even though it was completely bipartisan and supported on both sides of the aisle. Edited November 20 by SwampD 1

I'll never tell you you're wrong for not seeing things the way I do. Can I hold a conversation at a much higher level? Yes, of course, and I am, with others. LGR is combative and condescending. I truly believe, based on his own posts, that he'd rather see Trump fail than the country succeed. If me drawing attention to it is a source of discomfort to him, maybe he should give his posts a second read before hitting the submit button. Case in point - Gonna be fun when things one after the other implode.

I would say there is a stretch going from seeing Trump fail than the country succeed to suggesting someone wants to have the country burn is a stretch too far. Just work to clarify or don't engage. Let's keep it at a better level. 1 hour ago, JujuFish said: LGR invites this with the way he communicates. As I said above, I am aware of how he communicates. Each individual chooses how they respond to that however. if one cannot control how they respond, that's on them. Personal attacks, especially one's that suggest someone wants to watch the USA burn, are not going to be allowed here.

When Trump was elected the first time, I believe there were many people In the house and in congress, on both sides of the isle but I believe maybe more blue because they held the majority at the time, that hated the man so much they refused to work with him even if toward a common goal that would have benefitted the country. I also feel that Republicans refused to work with Obama, although for much different reasons. Now that congress and the house are red I'm curious if there will be more of a willingness to work with Trump. Do you also believe that Trump was such an ass that some people couldn't/wouldn't look past their own hatred of the man to work with him and do you also wonder if congress and the house turning red will mean anything different(better, hopefully) this time around? Or, am I seeing things that weren't there?
JujuFish Posted November 21 Report Posted November 21 1 hour ago, SABRES 0311 said: Your information is out of date. Trump has 76.8 million votes, 49.9% of the total. That percentage has continued to trend downward, so it is unlikely he crests 50% again.

This certainly doesn't match reality at all. Not only did Republicans control both the House and Senate, but they nearly universally worked with Trump. One exception I can think of, thanks to Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and John McCain voting no, was not allowing Trump to dismantle the Affordable Care Act without something to replace it. Democrats regained the House during the midterms, but Republicans maintained control of the Senate throughout Trump's term.
