I imagine these latest appointees must have Adam Schiff pretty nervous.

In other news, Sky News Australia is lamenting MSNBC canceling the abhorrent racist Joy Ried, as she was prominently featured on their segment "lefties losing it". Sky news Australia is very pro Trump, no idea if Australia in general is.

That's awesome. They did it again. That's also awesome. Right?

I think all Americans should be nervous when someone like Bogingo is put into a position of power. I no longer feel comfortable posting here because I think they'll come for all critics big and small.

I think calling Joy Ried a racist with some of the ppl trumps put in positions of power, is a choice. I'll leave it at that.

Wasn't there some project in trumps first term they he touted in like Minnesota or something and they broke ground, got a tax break, and then did nothing else?

I see your point. I agree with you. I don't think that makes my opinion of joy wrong, both can be true. YMMV of course.

I think they'll come for the dreck on PPP long before they look at you.

I don't know Joy Reid much other than clips here and there. I don't watch MSNBC or really any news. I like to read my news and have been using https://ground.news/

It is fairly good at telling you how that source leans or where it falls on the left to right spectrum.

The Apple thing is interesting. Sounds like most jobs will be in Texas and they are creating an AI center there which IMO seems flawed considering the issues with Texas' power grid and the fact you need to cool those servers that run your AI and Texas is a fairly hot place most of the year. Still, there are very low regulations for businesses so it probably balances out for them. Curious to see if Apple does fully invest the 500billion. One fault we have in NY is they haven't been good at balancing worker and business interests. Everything needs some balance and NY probably needs to look at regulations and taxes and figure out where it can clean things up in terms of regs and where it can make taxes (property) more palatable to business. Of course maybe business has become so cutthroat that you really can't anymore.

Education Department Slashes $600 Million In Funding For ‘Social Justice Activism’ Teacher Training

https://thefederalist.com/2025/02/18/education-department-slashes-600-million-in-funding-for-social-justice-activism-teacher-training/

https://thehill.com/homenews/education/5151673-department-of-education-cuts-trump-musk-doge-research-funding/

This article notes that while the headline DOGE and other far right sources want to run with is 600 million of DEI funding cut, the truth is far more complicated and many programs that are not simply DEI are going to be impacted long and short term but what can only be described as using a chainsaw to conduct brain surgery. There is a correct way to make cuts and reduce spending, impo we are not seeing that and the lack of transparency is increasing, not decreasing.

Any investment in American workers is awesome. The point is though, that this is nothing new on Apple’s part. It’s the same announcement as four years ago. Unless one is to believe that it’s two different announcements and that Apple as committed nearly ONE TRILLION DOLLARS, over half their cash reserves, for two different ventures in the US in four years.

Trump, just like Biden four years ago, had nothing to do with it.

And Trump is full of crap that tariffs had anything to do with intimidating Apple because they are not about to start manufacturing their most popular products domestically. They’ve benefited from dirt cheap labor in dozens of countries for years, which has been the key to their enormous bottom line for years now.

Until Apple actually spends the money it's irrelevant.  It's no different than putting stock in what a GM says.

Very possible.. and I will continue below.

The AI centers are a real thing. My company has a lot of network footprint in Minnesota and we're in discussions with many large corporations about connectivity to data center builds.

https://www.axios.com/local/twin-cities/2025/01/21/minnesotas-data-center-boom-concerns-electrical-supply

This is happening in other pocket markets, Abilene, TX, Memphis, TN, etc.

Moving away from the core areas like Chicago, Ashburn, Dallas (although still booming), San Jose, etc.  Those power grids were not designed for AI needs and given the population it is too big a lift to just add power.. which an already huge lift.

It should come as no surprise that Sky News Australia is very pro Trump as they are owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. It’s no coincidence that Sky News Australia has the same rep as Fox News as both trade in lies, misinformation, conspiracies. The several Australian friends and acquaintances I’ve made over the years think it’s a joke and no, they are not Trump supporters. Can’t say if that’s a reflection on Australia as whole or not, but the Labor Party, a center-left party,  saw their candidate elected as Prime Minister as well as their party regain majority control in the parliament in their ‘22 election so that may be indicative of where their populace is politically.

I did not know they were owned by Murdock, thank you for that. So they are on the same level as FOX News, CNN and MSNBC, but on the FOX News side, I guess that provides some context to their "lefties loosing it" segment.

I think I remember Doohickie talking about power grid issues where he lives....around Dallas, I think?  Maybe I'm misremembering. Would make for a puzzling choice of location.

Idk if things have changed since but found this from 2021 when Ted Cruz ran away to Cancun and the state had major power grid failures.

I find these comparisons between Fox and MSNBC/CNN amusing. They are alike in that they both have strong editorial leanings to one side of the political spectrum over the other and they report news in their actual news segments, which aren’t offered much during their 24 hour cycles. The rest of the programming day on their networks is hour long “hosted” shows with commentary from the hosts and various guests, usually in support of their editorial leanings. But only one “news” network outright lies and deliberately deals in mis/disinformation, and conspiracies. Furthermore, only one of them consistently fails to report and comment on stories to their audiences that aren’t favorable to their political leanings.

They lied to us for months, maybe years, about Biden being "sharp as a tack".  Lied up to a debate on live TV where we could all see the truth and they couldn't lie anymore. To me what's amusing is how any open minded, rational person could not see the three as equally deplorable. Anywho, this is more time debating news channels than I care for, agree to disagree.
