He's a asshat. He is. But this team kind of needs an asshat. Someone who will go to the net with a purpose and a recklessness and occasionally lose a goal with interference. (Like Benson, but with experience.) The reluctance from me would be, how quickly would Bunting stop going to the net on this team? Quote
Archie Lee Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 I realize there are reasons for skepticism, but of the teams in the mediocre middle (of which, currently, two will make the playoffs in the East), I think we are well-positioned to take a run. My optimism is higher than it was at the start of the year, in part because there are so many teams also struggling to find consistency in their games. Drawing arbitrary lines in the schedule can be a fool’s game (so, indulge me), but since the 0-3 start the Sabres are 8-6-1, which is a .567 points %. That is hardly an amazing stretch, but a .567 points % the rest of the way actually gets us in the playoffs (based on current opposition records). After a slow start, Dahlin is on pace to match his 22-23 offensive production. Also offensively: Thompson and Tuch are having bounce back years, Peterka is continuing to progress, Power is on a 60 point pace, and Byram is on pace for a career high 50 points. The PP IS getting better. Cozens, Quinn, and Benson are not producing as needed, but McLeod and Zucker have lessened the blow by exceeding offensive expectations. UPL has shown signs of playing to last year’s form, and hopefully his injury is short-term and non-lingering. The Sabres, I think, have more upside and room for improvement than most teams they are competing with for the final two spots in the East. They are still adapting to a new coach and system. They are young and have much room for multiple players to simply start to play better (including some who are not meeting current expectations). And, per the topic of this thread, they have the cap space and resources to make a significant add. If Adams can pull off a deal, I do think they are a team positioned to improve as the year progresses. This year, slight in-season improvement may be all that is needed. 1 1 Quote
inkman Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 At this point can we just consider this strategic info leaking to these rumor mill mouth pieces? There is no evidence it’s anything but. 3 Quote
WhenWillItEnd66 Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 He will wait until we are well out of a playoff spot and make some token bs garbage trade to placate the fans. Fire KA 1 Quote

Kozak is a 12/13 at best, but there will be an opening on the 4th line next season. He could easily make a bottom 6 debut this year for 2-4 games and be a part-timer in 2025-26. If he maximizes his potential, he could then hash out some seasons in the NHL. 1 Quote

Yeah he’s a low ceiling even lower floor type. Not gonna wow your socks off in any capacity. He might claw his way to an NHL career but his talent level maxes out as 4th line at best. Quote
SabreFinn Posted Monday at 08:50 AM Report Posted Monday at 08:50 AM Fans on this board has been wishing for a more balanced defense for a while now. Power needs a steady stay at home RHD att his side. Names I come to think of, that even might be available, are Connor Murphy CHI, Rutta SJS, Carrier NSH, and as a bonus a cheap alternative, Pittsburghs St Ivany. At least Jokiharju has to go, as long as he has some value, but they probably has to retain half of his salary. Then there is the hope for a top six upgrade. Granlund will be traded by Sharks at some point, he can play all positions and special teams. But the fact is there are hard to find trade partners this time of the season. There were several options during offseason and nothing happened. And one thing for sure, if Adams makes a trade, it will be something totally different from what we wished for. At last something hypotetic that crossed my mind. What if there had been a bold move and we had sent Quinn and a first to Canes for Necas? Quote
SABRES 0311 Posted Monday at 09:47 AM Report Posted Monday at 09:47 AM The only player I see getting moved is Joker. Muel is banged up and certain struggling forwards aren’t going anywhere. If KA is looking for a second pair stay at home guy I think Joker plus a little sweetener does it. 1 Quote

There is no evidence it’s anything but. It's all rumor mill crap. I wouldn't put it past the Sabres to "leak" info with some theory of placating the masses. However, at this point, if things don't materialize then I think most of us are going to be even more disappointed in the GM and owner (if that's possible). Better to be quiet and do nothing than to leak out that you are trying to do something big and have nothing happen. I'm not sure who is listening to that crap anymore and isn't the point where the fan mentality is "Show me or shut up." 1 1 3 Quote

Yeah, I was agreeing with you but then going on to hypothesize that if they were just floating rumors it will inevitably bite them in the arse. Now perhaps also they are floating it to get some GMs to call, but the statement reeks of desperation.. which it should and of course Adams will not get a good deal offered as other GMs know he's on his last legs.. If only it wasn't left to decay this long. Quote

The only thing that has me questioning this group isn’t as much how talented they might be - I’m not sold on it yet - proof of that is when its best player who is made of glass thus cannot hit, how far we fall off a cliff when he doesn’t play. It’s mental toughness and wanting it to be easy. The margin for error for a marginally talented team? You can’t have any. You need to be relentless for almost entire games. We don’t have that. We’re physically and mentally soft. Greenway to me embodies this perfectly. He’s physical. At times. He’s not tenacious. We have ZERO tenacious. 1 Quote
