Weave Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 Title sez it all. For those of you that have tried any of the Twitter alternatives, do any of them have a decent number of hockey folks that are creating content? 1 Quote

I've had both for awhile and Bluesky has added more in the past 6 months I'd say. Quote
LGR4GM Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 Actually, let's be blunt. Bluesky has added a ton since November 5th. That's not a political statement, it's just the truth. 1 2 Quote

Who do you follow on Bluesky for hockey content? I see the Sabres have an account but no info. I haven't seen any of the 'insiders' there yet. For me mostly the same with Threads. Threads has a bit more content, but none of the big sources, and Bluesky seems to be growing quicker. (on a side-note, Bluesky needs a Windows Desktop app ASAP.) Twitter seems to be where most of the hockey news come from as of right now. Quote
SabresBaltimore Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 (edited) the main one I follow is Joe Yerdon: https://bsky.app/profile/joeyerdon.bsky.social Fairburn is there too, but he only recently started posting. I don't have a direct link for him. (it might just be: matthewfairburn.bsky.social) None of the national guys (like Freedman) are there yet that I've seen. SabresBaltimore Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 guess I need to go looking for more accounts after work. There has been a big spike on the Bills side of things in the last few days. Until recently I mostly just saw posts from Yerdon there Quote
Doohicksie Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 I've been on Mastodon for a while. It's kind of like Windows Phone (when that was a thing): Decent enough, but doesn't have the mainline apps/content providers. Just joined Bluesky and it seems more active. If anyone wants to follow me there my display name is Paul H Doohickie. 1 Quote

I'm still on Twitter and I don't really care who runs it or what their views are, I'm just tired of getting hammered with so many ads (I'll take a few, but sometimes it seems like I have almost as many ads as posts to read) and for people seeking out my old posts just so they can attack me/yell at me because I only agreed with 90% of what they said 6 months ago. 1 Quote
mjd1001 Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 (edited) Some WGR guys just moved over there...they don't post a ton, but someone else to follow on BlueSky: @zachjonessports.bsky.social @nategearysports.bsky.social And on a non-sports related them: Maps. I love maps. If I'm bored, I might just fire up google maps and just look around for minutes, or longer. I've gone to museums full of maps on vacation for fun. If anyone is strange like me with Maps: terriblemaps.bsky.social Its someone who has 1/2 of his posts comedic posts about maps, 1/2 of his posts informative posts about maps, and the final 1/2 of his posts are a 1/2 / 1/2 post about maps that is both comedic and informative. Weave Posted November 14 Author Report Posted November 14 Lots of info here. Thanks all. I suppose I just need to download the app and look, but the other thing that keeps me holding onto twitter is government agency accounts. For example, national weather service, space observatories, NY thruway authority and NY canal system, utility companies, things like that. Any services along those lines moved at all? I hate duplication and don’t want multiple versions of Twitter functionality. Just trying to get a read on where other services are at. Quote

My guess is those things might be coming, but it will be a little bit of time. They go to where the users are. The old 'chicken-vs-egg' thing. They won't go there until there are enough users, but many users won't go there until those people are there to follow. I can't remember the exact agency, but there was a local agency (something like the MTA in NY city or the "T" in Boston, or maybe some early weather warning service for a region...I forgot which one) that actually quit Twitter a month or so ago because of some new rules/regulations making it harder to for them to give out information. Again, sorry for being so vague, maybe someone else remembers the story...but my though it again, those things might be on Blue Sky, but its going to take some time. I just want a platform like Twitter or Blue Sky (maybe not the best name, I have this overwhelming urge to abbreviate it every time I type about it as "BS")....I want a platform available that doesn't have tons of ads but has enough info on it to make it worth following. Almost everyone I want to follow still uses Twitter. But the platform just gets so much less user friendly every month that goes by. Quote

I just got followed by someone with that name, no idea who it is. Quote

darksabre Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 FWIW BlueSky is having some issues today as they try to get a handle on the exponentially increasing user base. LOTS of big sports personalities showing up over the last 48 hours. Hopefully they'll have the hamster wheel turning freely again later today. Quote
