Levi to Rochester?

At least not until Luukkonen shakes off his day-to-day listing.

But then, yes, I would send Levi down to play a bunch. Sandstrom is also out, so you need a goalie for a good Amerks squad to hunt for their own playoffs.

Yes, because they are too stupid to add a forward so that they can sit Quinn in the press box where he belongs.

But yes, it'll be 3 goalies and then who knows.

I recall Quinn getting some press box time under Granato in the past and coming back better for it.

Abe-Kubel is ready to get some ice, maybe they sit Quinn next game against St Louis?

I want a situation where he has to start to realize he needs to earn it and not just be handed it. Quinn just lacks all effort. He needs a wake up call.

Problem is Abe-Kubel is a 4th liner fringe player so you end up putting Krebs higher and that doesn't fix a whole lot. We're a good forward short.

The much heralded 4th line hasn't really impressed me either.

Krebs is already elevated to 3C with the injury to Thompson.    Ruff ran McLoed on the first line to day at practice.   The center spline is weak without Thompson.  The spare forward is Abe-Kubel unless they bring Kulich back and make another roster move.

So if Thompson's out there actually is no spare forward. They can run with 7 D but otherwise it's Abe-Kubel onto the 4th line, Lafferty over to center, Krebs up to the 3rd and McLeod up to the first. Quinn gets to play no matter how much he sucks. Yay.

Hadn’t thought of 7D. Joker could come back or Abe-Kubel, Lindy has that option.

It will be interesting to see who steps up, if anybody.

Did you go tonight? Eric Boulton looked rough. Great to see Connelly out there.

I was. Glad to see Cody Hodgson out there too. I feel bad for him and wish him nothing but the best.

Personally I detest the 7D lineup, but maybe somebody can help me understand why it is something worth considering?

its too bad we traded Mitts. And ive heard rumors about trading Cozens for help on D. I cant imagine how weak we'd look if that happened. But If Thompson is out for awhile i'd assume Kulich comes back but who knows.

It's not ideal but if you don't have any decent forwards to sub in...........

Personally I think it only works if you have a bruising D man who you can throw onto the 4th line wing for some shifts. There was probably a more recent example of a Sabres D man playing wing but the last time I remember that clearly was when that D man was named.................wait for it.................Lindy Ruff.

Well if your best lineup is 7D then it’s worth considering.

You look at your bottom D and your bottom F and decide which player brings more.  Then you have to be willing to shuffle lines to accommodate the imbalance.  It not ideal.  I’m not advocating for it.

I remember Lindy playing wing, but does anyone remember Marc-André Gragnani, a borderline NHL defenseman who got called up from Rochester a few times in the early 2000s playing some wing?  I do, and was able to confirm it on Wikipedia:

"He played minor hockey for the Dauphins de Deux-Rives followed by four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He was selected 87th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and signed a professional contract with the Sabres in June 2007. After completing his junior career with the PEI Rocket, Gragnani began his professional career within the Sabres organization in the 2007–08 season, making his debut on February 23, 2008. Although originally drafted as a defenceman, Gragnani shifted to the left wing position during his first season.[1] " ( "Sabres call up Gragnani". wgr550.com. February 23, 2008. I don't remember him but did he ever play D for them? If not he doesn't qualify 🙂

I'm thinking Val James might have been a D man who played wing as well but I'm not sure. I think Lee Fogolin had some wing time as well, much like Lindy was used.

Lindy was actually a pretty bad D man when he started, which is why he was put on the wing to hit people as he had a lot of raw skill and size.
