Thanks! I was a Navy diver back in my youth. It was a cool gig, if not a bit dangerous. Hence why I still do diving trips now. Much nicer with a go pro and filming cool marine life instead if disarming bombs in the gulf 🙃

My FIL did that. Was based out of Puerto Rico - or was it Cuba? During the 'Nam years. After that gig he never set foot in the water again.

I still enjoy the water, I took a different route. After I left the service, I just decided to quit grooming 😂😂

Kids are off.  Every adult I know is working.

Not me.   My morning is a 3 mile walk and daily workout.  The afternoon is watch Sabres game, and then get back outside for leaf patrol and the never ending Fall cleanup in the garden (i.e. show wife I really did do something).  Then I better go on-line for Medicare enrollment and get that off my list (my wife keeps reminding me of it even though I have the entire month to procrastinate some more).  The evening will be spent with my Taylor acoustic guitar.

It's a retired guy day.

I can't wait until retirement....only 20-30 years to go! I really ought to be playing the lottery more.

Since 80% of the country is working today, why schedule a matinee?

I am happy they did so. Not very often Sabres games can be seen on television here in Finland, but this game can. And it is not in the middle of the night European time either.

Not surprised.  It will be interesting to see if Muel has a fire lit under him today.

Also not surprised that Bryson is keeping Joker on the bench right now.

If he plays like he's supposed to; ie. with lit fire, he will injure himself by the end of the second and be placed on LTIR.

Kids

I'm always looking for the rare game that I can actually try to sit my 2 year old down to watch... and of course it is the day I have to work.

So do they only schedule Matinee games against known ticket draws like the Canadiens or the Leafs?

Also, do they not care about television viewers (I’m open to the possibility that they don’t) While the in arena attendance might be swell, I have to imagine they only get a fraction of tv viewers today.

The NHL is just weird.

I like Joker over Muel.  If I understand the concept of Muel - punishing stay at home - he's just not showing it nor has he since 2 seasons ago.  Joker on the other hand is quiet and complimentary, fast enough, smart enough, get the puck off the opponents stick and over to your more talented partner / up the ice.

This needs to be a statement game, no letdown. We have the better team and getting 2 points is an absolute must. Unless the Caps had a fluke start to the season, it's either jumping Boston or Tampa (most likely Boston). Nobody else is dropping out of the top 8 so leapfrogging Boston today is a necessity.

Expected.  So I guess Gilbert is Muel's understudy, and Bryson is Joki's understudy.  When Bryson has a bad game or two, Joki will go back in.

I think it's roles.  Gilbert and Muel play similar roles - stay at home defender.  Joki and Bryson are both puck moving D.  I think when Gilbert goes out it's logical that Muel goes back in.

You know that they do this every year on this day.

Based on the gymnastics the league necessitates to watch games, the evidence would indicate that, no, they do not care.

Vaguely.  So as it’s a known entity or “a thing” as the kids say, therefore there is a predetermined crowd that will be attending? I suppose that’s something.  My pops is at Applebees with my kid getting his free lunch for veterans.  The only thing my dad is more proud of than serving his country is serving ol’ sugar packets and grabbing a free meal.  🤣

In fact not only do they not care who is watching, they are willing to sabotage their own league in a cash grab by signing deals with 17 different streaming services making it impossible for the average fan to legally watch all their games.  The NHL should be studied as a business model.

It’s a kids day that I am sure is in part funded by tax dollars.
