UPL = First Star

Tough game. They beat another good team.  Thats 3 in row.  Complain about style points if you must, but they did it.  They can build on this one.

And the kids got to see OT and a shoot out.

Winners WIN. Doesn't matter how.  Go Sabres.

Whatever shakes your pompoms.

My hope is Ruff is peeling the paint off the walls on the locker room right now.  Losing leads.  Getting outshot in the 3rd.  Stupid penalty in OT.  The Sabres are a team with a high ceiling.  Better, more consistent effort will raise their floor.

Center Ice doesn’t broadcast postgame. Oh well.

Get a real run going here. Put yourselves back in a spot.

Not every game is going to go the way you want. Find a way to win.

They are playing a style that will be successful in the regular season and playoffs if they can get there.

And give some credit to Vladar. I thought he was tremendous today. Not a ton of shots but most were high danger.

I don't think they had two 3 wins in a row streaks last year. We're in November and we already have two.

Yeah. But need to learn how to not follow them up with 3 game losing streaks.

They did.  They had exactly two.

Well it's a good thing UPL is good at shoot outs because they really only played 20 minutes of good hockey today. You'd think that they'd be dominant 3 on 3 but they clearly haven't been practicing that either. Ruff needs to take some time and work through a few more of those.

Sloppy game, old habits, and they were struggling against that Calgary grind which has a subtle but substantial physicality to it. Lessons to be learned here. Opposition teams will not let you play the way you want to all the time and they need to know how to adapt.

Really not impressed with Malentstyn. He was billed as our new big tough guy and I don't see it. We weren't initiating in the second half of the game, we were responding and a step behind all through the third. They were chasing and basically just being last year's Sabres. I hope it's not a trend.

But hey, good teams find ways to win even when they maybe shouldn't, and UPL stood tall to help with that so 2 more points. Ruff has much teaching game video to use from this one as well. It can still be progress.

Lindy wants games like this.  You are not going to win every game 6-1.  You need to win games like this. The playoffs are full of them.

In the past the Sabres lose this game.

As of this afternoon after the game...Sabres are now in a 5 way tie for 8th in the conference (playoff position).  That could change by tonight when other teams play, but of the teams they are tied with, the Sabres have the best goal differential (+4).

Still that makes them 1 point per game, on pace for 82...pretty sure that point-per-game pace won't be good enough by the end of the year, but for now...great.

Montreal next...they are the 3rd worst team in the league in terms of points...dead last in goal differential..don't screw it up!

Sabres were all over them in the first. Stopped hustling after that, and kept looking for the pretty plays on offense. We only had 20 shots?
