Big Guava Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 (edited) Loved to see this team still sliding to block shots and busting their @sses back checking to take away odd man rushes late in the 3rd up by 5 goals. That's how you build good habits. It doesn't matter what the score is, you play the same way every game, all the time until it becomes second nature and the standard. Sabres fans spread around and some obnoxious ones behind me. Felt pretty good, having been on the other side of it many times at KeyBank. UPL had the rags fans oohs and ahhs in frustration. Great night! 6 3 1 Quote

Then hopefully have enough depth to sit the loafers for a night. With Kulich, A-K, and our two D's, we can kind of do that. Quote
Scottysabres Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 More of this please. They were supporting one another, showed much better cohesive play as a 5 man unit on the ice. They were commanding puck possession the better part of 40 minutes, and the other 20 were sporadic for the Rangers pressure at best. Very proud of them to clean it up. Not sure on the D, but that Gilmore? guy looks much better chemistry and play wise than Samuelsson, someone can attest this to be true? Over all a complete team effort, confidence growing. The wife was ecstatic, by the start of the 3rd, it moved. 1 1 Quote

I haven't zeroed in on him, but I think it's good that I haven't really noticed him... Other than when he was keeping Tkachuk honest. As a defensive D, being invisible is a good thing. Samuelsson has had it too easy. Hopefully some time off will light a fire under him. Mind you he already got his money so maybe he doesn't care. 2 Quote
SABRES 0311 Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 Awesome team effort. Only complaint is the dangerous bits by NYR, one in the first and one in the third in particular. UPL had good puck tracking. Gilmore and Clifton seem to pair well and stick to a simple, physical game. 1 Quote

His former club (Calgary) is coming to town Saturday, so pencil him in for at least one more start. Hopefully Muel is stewing in the press box. 2 Quote

GASabresIUFAN Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 (edited) I didn't get to see the game, just the highlights. It look like some good board work in the O-Zone resulting in goals by Sabres driving to the net. It also looks like the Sabres are a better team with Benson on the ice and Joki and Mule off of it. Lots of good stats from this game except 2. 21 giveaways is a terrible number and only 17 hits. I do like that they blocked 21 shots. 2-0 in the last 2 with 11 goals for and only 2 against. UPL looking good in both according to some articles on the games. 1 game under NHL 500 and a solid road win to boot. Edited November 8 by GASabresIUFAN Quote

PerreaultForever Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 I think this team is finally starting to figure it out. There was some damn good hockey played in that game. Rangers did look a little flat and maybe we caught them napping but also maybe the skating and speed of the Sabres just never let them get going. It was an excellent game by the Sabres. What I noticed most of all is they are finally playing strong positional hockey. A real structure is taking place and they worked as a precision unit rather than a bunch of individuals who for years have just run around and chased the puck and play. When that happens everything else clicks into place and passes are quicker and crisper, the transition is better and the offense isn't just one and done. THEY PLAYED LIKE A TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think maybe the Euro trip really did set them back. They had a short camp and then a Euro holiday and what they really needed (since things are so different to last year) was a serious Ruff boot camp and now with this fairly light stretch they've had more practices and the coaching is getting the message across and they are literally figuring it out (as they like to say on Shorsey). Clifton and Gilbert work well together as a reliable bottom pair. Nothing flashy, just solid NHL hockey. Quinn's pass to Benson was a nice play but he's still the weakest link and I wish we had a veteran forward there to replace him. Not his worst game by any stretch but he gives the puck away a lot. More than anyone else on the team right now. As bad as Skinner was in that regard. If this positional play keeps developing and the effort stays this team could still make some noise. I watched the Bruins game tonight as well and right now the Sabres are playing much better hockey than them and should be able to beat them easily. Should be able to beat Calgary next too. So is this it? Is this real? Is this the beginning of a new era? Or is it another illusion like the Kreuger win streak? It looked real. 7 Quote

Frankly like a few of the games where we've dominated in expected goals for/against and yet looked bad I think the same could be said for tonight. They got some luck against the Rangers but certainly created a lot of it with hard work. 1 Quote
