Prokhor Poltapov Signs a Two Year Extension with CSKA Moscow

Just looked up his elite prospects page.

Is there room for a modestly sized 21yo winger on our roster that has about 0.75ppg in the KHL? Would rather see him in Rochester, but I would think there'd be a low chance of him improving this team over what we already have.

he isn't interested in leaving the KHL to play in the AHL. He is going to get better in the KHL before even contemplating the NA jump.

He will be 24 when his deal ends, he could sign a one year ELC and making him a RFA after one NHL Season

Other than the change in RFA, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing for Buffalo. If this team has room for an under 24 winger over the next four years, something went terribly.

I'm familiar with the name, but don't have any idea where the Sabres organization views him as a future prospect.  Does anyone here have insight?  Is him signing this extension in the KHL a concern?  I suppose that if he's playing professional hockey, the Sabres still like him as a prospect, and he'll only be 24 when the KHL deal ends, there still could be a path to Buffalo if the Sabres were interested.

Yeah... It'd just be nice to have him close by. One, he could definitely be a big help to the Amerks. Two, if he makes a big jump, we can bring him up to the big club a lot easier.

You would think that with the other Russians in Rochester, that it would appeal to him coming to NA.  Maybe he just feels more comfortable at home like the German from 10 years back who came over for one AHL season and went back…never to be heard from again.

I don't know the exact terms of the new khl contract, but it would likely be a huge paycut to play in the ahl.  I said this in the other poltapov thread... hes not going to come over unless he's playing in the nhl

Edit:  paycut, not payout lol.  Autocorrected

From a GM Sheevyn perspective, does this mean Poltapov does not want to be here and is now a fully-on-the-table trade chip?

Or, alternately, from a GM Sheevyn perspective, is this a boon as they'll get an in-his-prime, aggressive, (probably middle-six capable), ELC forward to add to the lineup the season Skinner's buyout drops back to an easily managed $2M, after they've settled on the core costs/decisions of Quinn, Peterka, Byram, Benson, and Levi?

His value probably dropped as a trade chip.  Won’t come over for 2 yrs.  Can’t imagine teams are chomping at the bit for that asset.
