After 5 years of Adams, we still have no expectation that the Sabres can compete with the best teams in the league.

They need to be able to compete with the middle third of the league and actually make the playoffs. They can’t even get to that level, let alone worry about taking on the top tier teams.

They are not at their level yet.   They have money to spend though.

They are in the middle third right now.

I said they haven’t gotten to the level of making the playoffs. Which to do means they gotta consistently beat the middle third of the league. Not be in the middle third of the league 10 games in.

I'd say that the general consensus would be that if you had a GM who lasted 5 years with one team that would indicate that the team is probably one of the better teams in the league.

What you say is true, so it's mind-boggling that we just shrug off a Monday night home loss early in the season as, eh, maybe they'll learn something from this.  Meanwhile the architect of the malaise carries on with no accountability.

Well they lost to a very good hockey team, took some dumb penalties and lost too many one on one puck battles but overall they had some good moments. Florida is fearless and passes the puck very well in traffic. They're physical, they're balanced, they are a cup winner. We are nowhere near that yet.

However, I will say that the 2nd period was probably the most entertaining period of Sabres hockey I've seen in I don't know how long, maybe a decade. That's how they have to bring it all the time.

No offense, but I’ve heard the “we have to learn…” crap from the team for the last 10 years

Ok, what else can be said.  They are essentially a team with 6 new players, a  new coach, and are young. They aren’t the Stanley Cup champs either.  Learn, get better, bring in better players and better coaches.

After 5 years under Adams?  Not ready for this type of test?

Has any other GM in the history of the NHL held job for 5 years with no playoff appearances?

When Cozens/Quinn come around they'll be fine.

If I were Adams I would not count on it.  He needs address the top 6 if he is serious about playoffs.   There is not enough firepower with Quinn/Cozens in the lineup.

Kulich brings more than Quinn and should replace him for a few games at least.

Cozens might wake up, maybe.

They played well against a superior team; the wheels fell off a bit after Dahlin's momentum smacked Lundell in the mouth.

Verhegahe is a bloody bastard for blatantly boarding Krebs and then turtling by refusing to stand up; Cozens gave him some light cross checks but he can't exactly do much without being suspended for full on crosschecking a player sitting on the ice.

UPL was solid but his typical issue popped up again with goals 4&5 which I can't blame on the defense really; they were well positioned and either the goalie needs to have it or the shot was just perfect.

Florida plays dirty and we didn't shy away from it which is a step forward.

All the hand wringing over Power is getting ridiculous; players make mistakes, live with it. He also had some really nice shifts and solid tie up in the 1st to prevent a goal. The best way to view him is akin to a potentially better version of Tyler Myers. Big bodied but will rarely use it aggressively and getting hung up on it is just a waste of air.

Dahlin was truly a mixed bag all game, made a couple boneheaded defensive plays (not trusting his partner is an old habit that will die hard) but also creating offense with both his angles and passes.

Unlike Cozens who seems snake-bit and over analyzing everything; WTF happened to Quinn. He went from an analytical 2-way star in the making to looking like "hockey hard, me sad" Between his baffling passes and positioning I don't see the player we literally just saw last year and I have no clue as to why.

For what? Pointing out what the Sabres lack compared to their opponent then responding to someone whom didn't approve that I pointed it out?

I think this part.

"If it's taxing you might I suggest crocheting."

We're not allowed to tell people how to be a fan.

I think you're safe though.

My issue is we've been sold on a "process" with no measurable expectations assigned to it. There is a core in place going on their 3rd to 4th season together. The expectations this year need to be no lower than playoffs. If they are not playing in the postseason, Adams needs to be gone and a good, veteran GM needs to be hired to evaluate the roster top to bottom and suss out which pieces are really a part of a team that will chase a cup.

The problem is that Adams is personally attached to too many of these guys and I think that clouds his objectivity. We have looked much better since the 0-3 start and there's still plenty of runway for this team to put it together and finally get to the playoffs. I think they just might, but if they fail to do so, a lot of changes need to happen because of your "process" isn't working by year 4, you did it wrong.

On to the next one...

Careful.  He'll likely be coasting around on the ice aimlessly thinking about what movie to catch on Netflix when he gets back home in less than a month.

Suspect goaltending and undisciplined penalties cost us the game. Top players need to produce which Dahlin did but this is one where the top six forwards need to score some goals.

Boqvist and Bennet need to receive beatings.

Jack Quinn needs to be benched. Put Kulich in until Benson is ready but he looks like a rookie.

Agree with both points.  I really wasn’t sure about Zucker signing and first few games didn’t change that but I’m liking what I’m seeing in the last couple.  Seems like a better middle 6 than we’ve had the past few years.

I’m ok giving Kulich the odd night out to watch the game from above because of his age but that should apply to Quinn too.  Slow start, give him a different perspective.

Heal up quick Benson. Typical Lindy, no idea what the injury is.

Samsies. Zucker was a multidimensional good get.

Score 2-2 late second period, I said to myself we need to get at least a losers point. That would show major progress from past seasons.  But of course they lose the lead and can’t get the equalizer.  Same as the last few seasons, this team can’t come up large and grab a point even on an off night.
