GDT: Panthers @ Sabres 10/28/24, 7:00 PM EDT; MSG, ESPN+, WGR

The 4-4 Sabres take on the 6-3 Panthers. The Panthers will look for revenge after a bad outing in Buffalo the other week where top players were injured and Knight had a lowsy game in net.

Reinhart leads the Panthers with 14pts and Thompson leads Buffalo with 11pts.

Panthers have a 20%pp and a 89.3% pk compared to Buffalo at 3.8% pp and 77.8% pk. The Panthers have a 3.3 gpg and gapg compared to Buffalo at 3.33 gpg and 3.44 gapg.

I'd expect Bobrovsky v UPL, unless Buffalo wants to get a Levi start in here.

Levi's only win was against the Panthers a few weeks back. I was kind of expecting Ruff to play him again here, although we have back to back games on Fri/Sat (traveling to Detroit for the second game) so maybe not.

Mistakenly Waterboarded

If all we’ve known for the last decade is pain, misery and suffering, why keep up the MW shenanigans?  It’s not like it’s funny.

Going to be interested in seeing how the 2nd line looks tonight. Based on yesterday's practice NAK is replacing Kulich in the lineup tonight on the 2nd line:

Seems like an odd choice. Likely Ruff wants to keep the other 3 lines in tact because they've been playing well. I looked though and NAKs career high is 11 goals several seasons ago. Likely just a stop-gap until Benson returns, but I'll be curious to see if he tries Krebs or Zucker there again at some point during the game.

He started Zucker there last game, but didn't keep him there too long before swapping Kulich back. With how bad the PP has been, I don't love losing Kulich from our 2nd PP unit, but I think he wasn't very good in that last game. Cozens looked better and Quinn finally got a goal (and kind of assisted on Byram's goal by pushing the Detroit defender into the puck, which was redirected into the net). I'm hoping that finally lights a spark for Quinn. Prior to that game, I was ready to bench him to fit NAK in

At this point, I think it’s mostly just to annoy those of us who don’t like it. I’ve never been able to stand what it represents.

I think I like it. All Cozens has to do is keep throwing the puck at the net. NAK will cause chaos in front and we’ll get a lot more second chances. I think adding NAK for more forecheck/backcheck will also get more of that out of Cozens. I’m not sure what will get Quinn going. I think he’s gotta self-start more than anything. Hopefully that ENG helped.

To me it always represented an opportunity to be light hearted during heavy times.

To me it’s always been mocking the team. I remember it starting with NS posting must win during games when we were already eliminated. It always came off sarcastic to me. I can see how it was fun for some during the darkest of days, but to me it’s always going to mark our years of futility.

It really isn't that serious. Or snarky. Or heavy. It's just a bit of fun.

It's mostly not my cuppa (I burned out on it, I think). But for those who still participate, it's just a bit of goofin'.

The 4-5 Sabres (4-4-1). #DeLuca500

How many games above true .500 before the arena is packed? My guess is around 5 games. The fan base is hungry. Everyone I talk to wants to believe, they’ve just been burned in the past.

Because at this point I love the tradition of you complaining about it.  Every.  Single.  Time.

I don’t think most posters mean it that way, but I think by many it’s perceived that way.

Hmm. Interesting.

5 games is probably about right. It will build, though. If they can win 7 of 10 or something? Look out.

I got chills just typing that!

As far as Benson goes, they can sit him again and then play him Friday if he is good to go. He will have essentially had 2 weeks off while only really missing 3 games.

Ruff also talked about keeping forward pairs together and shifting guys around. Idk, should be interesting.

I’m reading Malcolm Gladwell’s new book (it’s fine), and in it he talks about the recovery of the Florida Panther (animal, not the team) and how inbreeding after mass extinction events had basically destroyed the population to unrecoverable levels. So to flesh out the gene pool, they brought in Texas panthers to breed. Apparently it’s been a very successful program. Florida officials have mixed feelings about their bastard panthers, but most think it’s a good thing.

Im not positive any of this ties in to hockey, but I’m sure someone here will be able to make it relevant.

Bastard Panthers is an awesome band name.

And a solid epithet for the hockey team.
