Pretty sure I wasn’t referencing a win streak.

You say that like there was only a single 3 game win streak last year.  They were WAY better than that.  It actually happened TWICE.  But sadly, those were the longest strings of W's the entire season.

They're on an 82 point pace. What's there to be all super hopeful about?

I will mark you down as glass is half empty.

You kidding?  He's already looking at the fact that he needs to wash the glass before he uses it again and that's going to take even MORE water so it's at BEST 1/4 full and likely only 1/10th.

Your analogy is goofy. Being a .500 hockey team can't be interpreted either optimistically or pessimistically. It's not a good place to be.

Perhaps it's the criteria behind the statement?

It COULD be worse as far as a record goes.  But if the Sabres want to be in the playoffs it HAS to be better.

The cream is already rising to the top of the divisions. There is going to be a huge fight for the final 2-3 spots in the east with about 7 teams going at it for them. A few game win or loss streak could put you in or keep you out. Being consistent this year is the key!

The answer to the thread title is “fleeting”.

I'd choose "wistful."

And now I feel like sitting next to a wishing well while staring into a meadow trying to recapture that euphoria of the Sabres spending a whole two hours of October in second place of the Atlantic division.

Will I ever feel that way again?!?!?

A riveting tale of how Sabres Nation made it through tense times in second place before returning to the tree lined streets and puffing barbecues of normalcy. Five Cusps up, raves Stoner of SabreSpace.

Also where's the snarky banner dude?

Need another 3 game win streak I guess

Perfect timing for 1:  Aisles, Wings, Otters up next on the slate.  Need to beat the teams that are in your demographic to advance into the high rent district.

So, how does it feel to be in 10th place (or maybe even lower - I have not checked today).

It feels the same as being only 3 points out of a playoff spot.

On the other hand, they need to jump over 6 teams to get into that last wild card spot. Not as easy as it sounds as they aren't all going to lose because they play each other and SOMEONE gets points in those games. Plus 4 of those 6 teams have a game in hand too.

The best way to look at it might be the 8th playoff spot currently has .542 of available points. Buffalo has .375.

To get to (or above) .542, they would have to win their next 5 games in a row...and that would get them (points percentage), fractionally into the last playoff spot.
