Yeah Pegula hasn't ever spent to the cap.  The teams lack of resources is on you too.

You wouldn't care if the team left Buffalo.  You're disqualified from these comments.

You don’t get to judge anyone.  We are all fans in our own way.  ***** off with that garbage.

This is one of your worst posts, and that takes some doing.  You clearly have reading comprehension issues if you think I want this team to leave Buffalo.

I care deeply for the team and would hate seeing them leave.   I am on record on that.

I am not an apologist for the poor leadership that has plagued this franchise since Terry took over. If you are happy with the past 13 years so be it.

My apologies.  The not caring if they leave Buffalo was another poster.

I had the wrong poster and apologized.  In saying that, you don't ever tell me what to say.

Says the person who started with telling others what they were allowed to say. Got it.  Of course you had the wrong poster, which, while irrelevant to telling others what they can and cannot say, only makes your original take more off mark.

I'll take that deal, so long as I see you say that to the other posters that do it.

Yet you didn't address Weave for doing it.  Stay consistent at least.

Without your initial comment telling people how they can act there would not have been a possibility of a response. That's called the initiating action. I am commenting on the initiating action.

I will comment on other initiating actions so I can retain my consistency, just for you.  No need to deflect and play the "what about the other guy?" card.

There is a need because it's what's done on the site consistently.  Veteran posters, especially the negative ones, rally around and think they're the fandom czars.

You and he could just as easily said, I saw you apologized and commented no more.  But that's not enough for you.  You must insult people and don't want any fight back.

A few things. Tom Golisano has repeatedly said the Sabres were not for sale when Pegula approached him about purchasing them. It is also well documented that there is a non relocation clause contained in the sale contract.  Tim Graham was the reporter who had the best sources during the Bills Sale Process, reported that any potential buyer who was interested in moving the franchise out of WNY was politely told that was not going to happen. Tom Golisano was asked about his interest  purchasing the Bills and his response was I will step in if was no other option to keep the team in Buffalo, the very reason he purchased the Sabres in the first place.

There have been multiple articles on how there is little to no benefit to public funding of sports stadiums to taxpayers.  This is a necessary evil for small markets if they want pro sports franchises.  That being said let’s not micturate on taxpayers leg and tell them it’s raining. Although I do fully expect the building of a smaller version of Patriots Place on the site of the current ECC South Campus, let’s be real. The current stadium opened 50 years ago and there has been almost zero development in the surrounding area.

In terms of the team being young as a reason for not spending more towards the cap, they were even younger after the 2022-23 season when the missed the playoffs by one point. Since then there two full off-seasons when they have not spend anywhere near the cap. Expected Buffalo,  Matthew Fairburn from the Athletic and Joe Marino have all put together realistic contracts for the Sabres pending RFAs this summer, which would leave them ample cap space moving forward. This doesn’t even include the possibility of the cap rising even more than 4 million next season. Besides the most competitive teams in the league are very creative and have little trouble managing the salary cap.

Good post.  But not sure what your point about Cheatriots Place is.  Shaffer stadium was around for about 40 years with NOTHING built up near it.  That there hasn't been any development around Rich likely won't reflect on what happens around the new stadium.  Pegula built a lot of stuff near the MMArena when there hadn't been anything but parking lots and Cobblestone along with the long since abandoned Aud there prior to his involvement.

With 2.1k posts you fall into veteran poster status.

Let's examine things here:

Your initial statement

Quote

"You wouldn't care if the team left Buffalo.  You're disqualified from these comments."

This alone sets the tone. You are making a blanket statement that a person's is disqualified from commenting if they don't care about the team leaving. In this statement alone you are attempting to control who gets to comment.

Let's examine the response from Weave:

Quote

"You don’t get to judge anyone.  We are all fans in our own way.  ***** off with that garbage."

This is a good comment. It's calling out your negativity towards those who hold a different opinion than you. It's rightfully calling out your attempt to censor the opinions of others.

But, because this is the Internet, there's always the double down from those who have been affronted:

Quote

"I had the wrong poster and apologized.  In saying that, you don't ever tell me what to say."

Here we go. You apologize to pimlach and then turn around and tell someone they don't get to ever tell you want to say. And yet.. that's exactly what you were attempting in your first statement.

Which leads us to my comment:

Quote

"Says the person who started with telling others what they were allowed to say. Got it.  Of course you had the wrong poster, which, while irrelevant to telling others what they can and cannot say, only makes your original take more off mark."

Here I am calling you out for your lack of consistency in which you tell others they are disqualified and then tell another poster they don't get to tell you what to say. I acknowledged your apology even, but the original point still stands.  Also, I have not insulted you.

To which you retort:

Quote

"There is a need because it's what's done on the site consistently.  Veteran posters, especially the negative ones, rally around and think they're the fandom czars.

So, let's break down this last ditch effort on your part:

  • You attempted to be a fandom czar yourself (see original comment)
  • You got called out for it (rightfully so, as we should try to police ourselves)
  • You were negative towards another poster (tell them what they cannot tell you)
  • Failure to realize I acknowledged your apology (not that in any way has anything to do with this conversation)
  • Claim to be insulted (what insult did I hurl at you?)

As far as fighting back.  By all means keep doing it. It's mildly entertaining.

Good day sir.

What you're missing is that the original comment wasn't to you.  It really has nothing to do with you, except you inserted yourself.  Then want to preach how everyone else is supposed to act.

There was a public meeting to discuss changing the zoning laws around the stadium including the ability to  construct 4 story buildings, WGRZ during their reporting said the goal is to build an entertainment district and said a smaller version of Patriots Place. The Buffalo News in their reporting mentioned Title Town in Green Bay as an example.  This is the very reason I expect something similar to be built next to the new stadium.

BTW props for the Power Goathead Jersey on Saturday.

We're in agreement on that.  Fully expect Pegula to get more stuff built around the area of the new stadium.

Sorry.  Let me contact SDS and let him know there's a security issue with the forum. I didn't realize your PM ended up on the public section accidentally. I just figured since it was in the thread where everyone can see it that it was open to the public.

How much of an infrastructure overhaul would they need for that? How much is actually planned right now? It’s been a long time since I’ve been out there, but the roads there, particularly Abbott, can only handle so much.

Granted, I’m talking about this as someone who went to the stadium from the Boston/Hamburg area, not exactly the main feeder into the stadium.

The 219 is right there about 2 miles from the stadium and the I-90 is, what, 4 miles away?  Abbott, Milestrip, and Southwestern are all multilane in that area.  Way more open than downtown near the MMArena is.
