Would have thought a checking line would have been on. Kane has a wide open net and hits iron. Glad it went in the empty net but that wasn't the right players on the ice. 3 in a row. Amazing after the early start to the year. Wasn't that all on the same shift after Cozens stupidly iced the puck from one stride away from the red line, forcing a faceoff in our zone and his line to stay out there for another shift? The good part is that Quinn made the play and he needed to contribute in some way. 1 Quote

Now, prior to icing, they were likely out there to maybe get a shot at the empty net. Cozens had time and space and could've skated a few more feet and rifled one for the empty net as easily as the corner. 1 Quote

PickaPecaPickles Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Sabres are scoring and winning against good goalies too. More often than not, they faced a team's back-up last year. After beating Knight, they'll probably face Bobrovsky Monday. Keep the streak alive! Quote

It sets the tone for the entire season. When you have a new captain and a new coach the team's identity is created in the first 10 games. You don't have to win them all, but it takes about 10 games to figure out if a team has "the guys" to finish games and "the guys" to respond to close losses. JohnC Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Just a few impressions about this game: The Tage line is playing like a good NHL first line. Tage is cooking. I thought the play of the game was JJP's pass to Tage for a score near the net. JJP is playing really well. Cozens and Quinn appear to be playing better. I'm not going to overrate their play, but they are not as invisible when on the ice as they have previously been. When Byram scored his goal that bounced off a defender it was because the defender was tangled up with Quinn near the goal mouth. The additions that KA made in the offseason are not flashy players but they have made this a better and more mature team. What I liked about this team is that even after dealing with adversity, as they did having a shorthanded goal against them, they didn't let the adversity affect their play. Dahlin got too cute and tried to pass to Tage instead of shooting it. UPL was solid. If we continue to get consistent sold to good goaltending, we should be in the playoff fray all season long. Greenway is not a flashy player but he is playing well. I have made this point before so I apologize for the repetition: The difference between this team and previous teams is that our lower lines are so much better and our lower pairing (third pairing) with Clfifton and Samuelsson are playing well. The bottom has been significantly raised making this a much more balanced team. A good home win and streak that is starting to establish a Lindy coached identity. 4 Quote

That can change one's outlook. 3 Quote

Rasmus_ Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 just finished watching highlights. good game from the top line. I will say that Power is playing very well. You don't have to be physical to be controlling tempo. Against Dallas he read the flow of the game really well. Quinn needed that monkey off of his back. I am one who wants nothing but success for this group! Keep working hard and pushing the pace. Go Sabres! Quote

thewookie1 Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Aside the SHG they played very well situational hockey start to finish. Thompson said Dahlin deked him out on the SHG. 100% he needs to shoot that but I still understand he wanted to help Thompson get the hat trick and feed the hot hand versus his freezing cold hand. He also played the 2-1 very well and UPL would want that one back. Just a failure in general but they bounced back and fought hard. Kane has a magnet in his stick; I don’t have the foggiest idea how that puck reached him in the last minute. I give Peterka credit though for doing everything physically possible to prevent Kane from his usual theatrics. Quote

Saying I don't understand winning streaks when your math level cannot comprehend how quickly that standings change in the first month of the season is making me laugh. Thank you for that. Check my receipts and you will see that I said after the Chicago road win to play UPL the next 2 home games and get a streak going. Both things happened. I might understand a little? Best team since 2011 means nothing. It is an empty title of nothingness. I want this year to be as good as 1972-73 for todays Sabres fans, especially for the younger fans that have yet to see a good team in Buffalo. Look that team up. Lindy Ruff was 12 that year BTW. 2 1 Quote

I was worried after the poor start we were going to dig a hole right at the beginning of the season. It's a relief to me to see that Lindy has them playing commonsense hockey, which was not much on display under Granato. Winning at home is also a welcome change. 1 Quote
