What has happened to Rasmus Dahlin?

  1. 1. How has the Sabres' best player become useless?

    • He's substantially hampered by the abdominal/core/stomach/hernia/other similar injury from preseason.

    • He got his zillion-dollar contract and is going to mail it in for the next 8 years.

    • He's the latest in a long line of fragile little children on the Sabres and is shrinking from the moment and the responsibility of being captain and charged with leading them back to respectability.

    • The years of relentless suckitude have soaked him through to his core and now he sucks.

    • He was never great and now the league has figured him out.

    • Stop panicking you hoser. He'll be fine by next week.

You are the type of guy when everyone says up, you say down. When someone says go, you say stop. When a coach says a player is "not 100% you oddly say that he is robustly healthy. If the coach acknowledges that a player is not "100%", he is essentially saying the player is playing hurt (injured). We have seen Dahlin when he was healthy, and we have seen him when he was plagued with an injury. How about using some common sense and trust your eyes!

Incorrect. When someone says up I do not say down, I say which way are you looking at it because if I look the other way it's down from there but up from over there. If they say go I don't say stop I say why? I like it here why should I go? I'm a question asker. I over analyze. It's my engineer's mind I guess but I dissect everything and speculate on most things as well. I need solid facts for full proofs.

Now, where did I say he was "robustly healthy"? Please don't make false attributions to try to make your point. I never said anything like that, see my other post replying to @Kristian for clarity if you still need it.

Just to be clear I'm not debating that he might have a small lingering something from that early issue (whatever it is/was) just that that isn't a big enough thing to explain his play. If it was significant enough to be hampering his play to the extent his play has been off, then that Krebs incident doesn't make sense and there's no way that would have been considered acceptable by Ruff. If Dahlin was actually significantly injured there's no way Ruff is going to excuse Krebs with a boys will be boys comment. That just makes no sense at all.

Injuries, pain specifically," can," make you agitated and have a far shorter wick for anger. Frustration + continuous pain can easily trigger a player to act more jumpy with issues that wouldn't usually trigger them.

Sure, but these are hockey players. Professional athletes. There are banged up players on every roster all the time. So no excuses.

It isn't an excuse. It just explains something.  Big difference.

Was really watching him last night.  As others have mentioned, he's skating more upright than in the past and he's also reaching with the stick rather than engaging.  He was not boxing guys out at all.

His side to side movement is also significantly reduced.  And his shot is weaker.  Clifton ripped a slapper late in the game that was easily 15 mph faster than anything Dahlin had shot the entire game.

There was literally no phase of his game that didn't seem to be getting effected by whatever the injury he has is.

The weird thing is, Hamilton and the guy hosting the postgame show on GR both thought he looked a lot better than he had the past few games.  Absolutely don't agree with that.

Guessing it's a sports hernia.  Hoping it's something that would heal up on its own significantly quicker.

He always struck me as one of the most creative skaters I have seen in a long time, and he simply isn't doing that this year.

I think he's dinged up, but still out there doing the best he can, the same as Josh Allen.

And FWIW, I think Allen cracked a bone in the opener, and has toned it down because they're trying to nurse himself back while playing on it.

Very clear if you watch Dahlin skate in the Josh Allen narrated "Captain" video that Dahlin is suffering from an injury that is really impacting his skating. He looked a little better last night but far from his usual elite abilities.  Nice job by Josh Allen narrating the video too. Buffalo has two excellent captains. Think both will bring home one or a couple championships to Buffalo.
