April 10, 1973 playoff video

Recommended Posts

It's a raw video without any commentary but some interesting visuals:

1. Game-tying goal by Guy Lapointe in 3rd period.

2. Calling for measurement of Ken Dryden's goal pads with 29 seconds left in third period.

3. Scotty Bowman quickly trying to find a rule book, then reading the rule book to determine if the measurement of the pads is legal.

4. Rene Robert overtime goal.

You built that tea, Punch!

Punch and Bowman were hired by Seymour Knox.

It just cant be that hard to have open and honest conversations with proven GMs and Coaches and then hire one.  Have things changed that much?

I think what strikes me the most, (other than the way some of the civilians in that video are dressed) is the lack of clutter.

Beautiful boards without and ads.

No Pepsi logos under the ice, etc.

It certainly was a simpler time.

Whenever I see the crowds from the old eras I see people tended to dressed better in social settings (within the fashion constraints of the times) and there was far less obesity.   Our food wasn’t contaminated like it is today.

Yes, absolutely.

But I was referring to the zoot suit on the guy with the mouton chops, as I was forced to wear a yellow corduroy leisure suit to a Braves game as a kid, lol.

I did a double take on the Mutton Chops guy.  Looks like this guy, from the exact same era.

It's funny too, now that you mention it.

I remember my Mom and Dad getting all dressed up to go to a Sabres (or Braves) game, which was usually preceded by dinner at the Aud Club.

And while my Dad's ties were always fat....they were never tacky! (other than the material)

Good times.

I had to dress for school and church.  For Sabres games I wore jeans and whatever.

When I was old enough to drive I always got the New Years Eve games and I got to take my GF into the Aud Club.  I had to dress up to go into the Aud Club,  jacket and tie required.

People were there for the hockey, it was pure and simple.

The video scoreboards are now important because people need to see replays. It seems more important to have your followers know what you’re eating and drinking and how many likes that is generating.

We are never going back there but it is an interesting contrast.

Like my Dad's ties - made from a fabric not occurring in nature!

Oh my. Thank you for finding this. I remember watching this on a black and white TV. It was high drama. I was 12 and I think this was the moment I went from "hockey, kind of cool" to "I'll run through a wall for this team." I idolized shoney. Loved the French Connection. This remembrance of that moment is just so great. Again, thanks for finding this.

I don't know how I was able to watch TV back in the day.

I feel you. I somehow believe it was better tho.

Leafs at Sabres on CHCH, quite snowy where I lived, especially when it came as a surprise... there was nothing better.

I grew up with TV "snowy" black and white hockey games that I picked up from the roof top antenna from Canadian airwaves.

Great winter nights.
