I'm calling this the low point if the season.   They're on the brink of settling in to Lindy's system.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

Over the next two weeks they'll turn a corner and never look back, erasing the playoff drought for good with decade after decade of playoff births and Stanley Cup glory!

....or not.

I will say that a lot of their issues last night were chemistry (differing to a guy not ready for a pass instead of taking the shot, half-assed passes, two guys either going for or not going for a puck), and some of that can certainly be cured by playing 14 games in a month. Of course, there were times when they couldn’t even get pucks out of their own skates, and, that was troubling.

Playoff births? 😇

A wave of new Buffalonian girls named Quinn, boys named Tage, some Lindys, and many, many Zemguses (out of respect for the name). Zemguses or Zemgi?

Ok  I'll try....

A lot does NOT have to change for this team to be in a playoff spot, or to be playing like a playoff team.

3 things. Cozens, Quinn, and the goalie.

They don't have to be all Stars, they don't even have to be better than they have been in the past. Just score and be as dangerous as you have been in the past for Cozens and Quinn, and the goalies have been letting in some weak goals, just make ONE more save that you should make every 100 shots.

Tage, Tuch, and Peterka can keep playing the way they have been. Your 3rd and 4th lines can keep doing what they are doing.  Your entire D-group, while not perfect, can just keep doing what they are doing.

You get a couple more goals out of Cozens and Quinn (Power play or even strength, I'll take them anywhere), and have your two goalies just not allow as many bad goals, and you are just about there. Nothing else.  16 of the 19 players each night you dress can play at the level they have been.

I am convinced this is a troll thread. Nobody who has been a fan of this team for more than a cup of coffee believes now is the time to be positive. Now is the time to be realistic. A golden 💩 is still a💩.

This team is missing playmaking ability in the top six. This requires offensive IQ, open ice vision, chemistry, and hand-eye coordination all in one package. Just because the odd tic-tac-toe happens doesn’t mean that problem is fixed.

On defense we are missing at least one top four stay at Dman.

Power play lacks movement of on ice personnel, fast thinking, and improvisation.

The idea that we are on the right track is a false narrative. This entire thread is an homage to the DG feel good press conferences.

You realize calling out deficiencies in this team’s capabilities has nothing to do with mindset. It is based on historical comparison to 13 previous years and success of other teams during that time.

Smiling and ignoring doesn’t fix any of it. Nor does it make it not a reality.

So, it was a nice idea to have one thread designated to not have people be overly negative, I mean, there are hundreds of other threads for that, but alas we now the rest of the message board isn't enough, we have people needing to come in here and B***H it up here too.

To the above poster who thinks its a 'troll' thread....there are SOME of us who view the team as entertainment first, and WANT the team to win but it is not the end-all-and-be all of our fandom.

Team has a losing record already. Glaring deficiencies and too little too late fixes. Again, one good game, period, or play is not indicative of turning a corner.

The team represents the city and the fans and they continue to fail. Rather, they get called out and refuse to salute the fans.

Despite all that it’s worth while to create an entire thread because a player made a good pass or they put consecutive shifts together where nobody screwed up too bad?

They have a new coach and have played 12 games. There are SEVENTY games left.  Give it a rest. Go be negative in some other thread. There are plenty of them.

What you call negativity is 13 going on 14 years of reality.

If they pull it together then great. Until then its 12 games where they lost out in the majority of points.

True, but thankfully we don't have a 16 game season like Bill Parcels did.

If our underlying metrics are ok, we're still in it this early in the season.

I think the team will get better, but it will take some time.  You can see that some of the players don't yet look fully comfortable with the system and nothing yet is "instinctual" -- meaning it is so well learned that it becomes part of habit.  What puzzles me it that some players, like Quinn, who were once very good shooters, cannot now hit the side of the barn.  Granato said last year that defense is the hardest thing to teach and maybe until these players are more comfortable playing defense the scoring will suffer.

I'm going to repeat what someone else posted that I agree with the more I think about it.

Its 3 positions or players that need to pick things up, that really it.  Quinn, Cozens, and the goaltender. At this moment the 1st, 3rd, and 4th lines are at least meeting expectation. The defensive unit is up and down but they are not a liability 60 minutes a game for you.

Quinn and Cozens combined for the season at 0 for 32 on even strength shot attempts. Quinns was an empty netter and Cozens a PP goal. Even if you count those they are 2 goals on 52 shots.  If on those 52 shots they have 3-5, maybe 6 extra goals sprinkled around the season, you likely have a couple more wins and less losses. Especially if you had your goalies with a save percentage of at least .900.

If you want to maybe add Benson to that list, but we know he was playing hurt.

The Sabres forwards on a cumulative basis minus Benson, Quinn and Cozens are a plus 14 in plus-minus.   Quinn, Cozens, and Benson, just between those 3, are a -11/

I am new here and I am clearly annoying people with my positivity, so I will keep my positivity to one thread this season. It is October 19, lot of hockey left and

The Sabres are currently only 1 point out of a playoff spot and

The Sabres are currently only 4 points out of 1st place.

It's not annoying. It can be humorous though. Look at how I responded to you in a thread, yes, I know you read it.

The fan base has a foundational right to be tired of the nonsense on the ice. Cut us some slack, 13 seasons isn't exactly a small window given the franchises time in existence. That being said, I like the optimism.....I'll go all in with ya.....

As a fellow Scott (Ska-T, Scottie, Scotty) - I support this message!

may have been a bit critical of some of what I thought was "over the top" anger-shaming, but I am still hopeful things can be turned around.

This seasons is going to be comprised of high highs and low lows.  Right now we are in a low low but I feel a high high around the corner.  *****, we already have one 3 game win streak this season!

I said it in the gameday thread last night, but the Thompson line is playing "keep you on the edge of your seat hockey" as they did 2 years ago. I might be exaggerating but every shift it seems one of them does something to make you say holy 💩 .
