Night Train Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 Probably knows and performs his role better than anyone on the roster. 10-15 goals, physical play, penalty kill. Give him a new deal soon. Keeper. 4 4 Quote
bob_sauve28 Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 And he fits anywhere. Top line? Sure. Fourth line? Ya, that works, also. Maybe even in front of net on PP. Let's face it, he can't do any worse than the players on the PP now do! 1 1 Quote
#freejame Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 This is part of his third season here. Let’s pump the breaks a little. Yes, he’s been great to start the year, but this is what he was billed as when we acquired him and he’s just now getting traction. 2 1 Quote
Weave Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 I like his game. Every team needs a Jordan Greenway. But let’s not get a hype train going. I wondered if he would fit in with all the speed merchants on the roster, but early returns seem that his game may be complementary. 2 2 Quote
JustOneParade Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 Maybe it’s just a matter of the player’s style fitting better with this coach than the last? 3 Quote
Pimlach Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 My how things change. Greenway was the guy most of you here wanted to trade when Adams was rebuilding the bottom 6. It pays to have 14 NHL forwards on the roster. Injuries happen all the time. 1 1 Quote

There was one guy no one should have ever questioned whether he’d fit in with or not… Lindy Ruff. Quote
Sabre The Cup Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 I’m all aboard the Greenway hype train. No need to pump the breaks. He’s been a late bloomer but he’s been slowly emerging. Ruff is the perfect coach for him. He has playoff warrior written all over him. Jim Cramer says Buy. Buy. Buy. Quote

Yeah, I started a sentence with, he’s a Lindy type of player, but couldn’t really complete the thought so I deleted that part. Quote
nfreeman Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 As I said in the GDT, Greenway was a major force last night vs the Panthers. If he keeps that up I'm going to want the Sabres to re-sign him and if they don't someone will definitely give him a good contract. As for him being a Lindy-type player: I agree with that, but I also think Greenie was one of the guys who were far away from being their best last year under Donnie G, which was really most of the team, with a variety of playing styles. I think Lindy will get more, sometimes much more, from almost all of them. One solid win and I'm very optimistic! 2 Quote
Sabres73 Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 Wait, I thought we were trading him last week? Is that rescheduled for next week? Quote

DG gets credit for pushing KA to get Greenway but other than PK work he wasn’t very effective last year. Quote
Believer Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 At 27, just hitting his prime. UFA next year. Big. Strong. A versatile player. Seems to get Ruff’s system. If he has joined up to the Buffalo community and likes it here, sign him, Adams. Quote
LGR4GM Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 Hey Siri, show me an example of recency bias... 1 1 Quote
GoPuckYourself Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 I liked him even in Minnesota so I'm all for keeping him, he has a solid all around game imo and should easily get give us 10-15 goals per season. Quote
PerreaultForever Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 He's looked good, and he's playing for a contract (or a deadline trade) but he was the definition of inconsistency last year so idk. I still question his desire and work ethic. If he brings it every night (and maybe Ruff gets that out of him) I think he can be a very effective player, but I'd wait to see if he does or not. Zucker's also looked better in N.A. than he did in Europe. That whole line has been quite a bit better and more like what was expected or hoped for. Quote

If he thrives under Ruff and plays like we've seen very recently with consistency then an extension might be a worthwhile conversation. Quote
triumph_communes Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 He was active and doing stuff under Granato he was lost and ineffective in betting coaching Quote

thewookie1 Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 Greenway is a player who shows up big for the 1st 20 games by means of being healthy and physically bullying the smaller skilled players that are still rusty; disappears for the next 40 due to a number of reasons like injuries and then reappears for the last 20 when defensive play is of a premium and harder checking is more frequent. Reminds me a tad of Pominville’s 2nd stint here in how the middle 40 is nothing to celebrate but on the ends their a force. Quote
