Heads the Sabres are sold and moved to Houston never to return. Tails the Sabres are sold to an obscure Manitoba donut king and he is the one we have been waiting for... a Cup (Stanley to be precise) in Year Three. Do you flip?

    • Yes. Get busy living or get busy dying.

    • No. Too risky. Houston? That's a problem.

You're right to put the focus on Pegula.  Ownership has been and is the problem.

For a couple of years now I have been in "I just hope he sells the team" mode and I will remain there until he sells it.

Long season to go though.

Well since I don't live in Buffalo I don't really care what city they are in so the question would be are they still the Sabres? If the goat head becomes one of those dead steers with the horns I'm thinking it's not really the same team any more. I'd be fine with a move to Portland. That's not too far. Atlanta Sabres has a better sound than Houston Sabres. Quebec City would be fun. Rekindle that Montreal rivalry and Gilbert can be their ambassador.

I suspect if they weren't called the Sabres though I'd probably stop following them.

Pegula has to go though. He's the constant and this ship is sinking deeper all the time. Best case scenario they stay in Buffalo but with a new owner who hires hockey people to run it and stays out of their way. Then create a goat head section for fans like those Czechs had.

idk, they were so damn good in the 70s. It's just so sad now.

It’s an interesting hypothetical. That King is my neighbor, btw

But I’m not flipping; I don’t need to risk losing the team for a chance at a cup, when a few deep playoff runs would do the trick. And by trick, I mean allowing me to fall in love with the Sabres again.

The Sabres just need to not be incredibly stupid and find a way to field a playoff team occasionally. This should be basically a “free space” achievement- that is hasn’t been speaks to the overwhelming ineptitude of the owner. But it’s hopeful in the sense you have to be astronomically bad as an owner for this to be the case: I’m confident the next guy couldn’t be this bad

i’ll sooner step away after this season upon the retention of Adams, and wait, than I would flip the coin

I don't either but this is a rotten statement.

The Buffalo Sabres logo is a buffalo between two sabres.

This should answer your question

Some might say that logo would fit many geographic areas more appropriately than ours. Throw them in Laramie, change the color scheme.

We already flipped a coin to either chase a cup or lose the franchise.  We lost that one.

This choice is the same.  There is literally nothing to lose at this point.

Just give us a competent GM who has a winning vison/plan. Kevyn Adams had no prior success anywhere and was not even sought after from what I read yet here he still is with no playoffs in going on 5 seasons. Who is a GM waiting in the wings who has been in a winning program and is waiting to take over somewhere? Can we get said individual? Or is there a guy who hasn't been rehired and is out that who has won in the past?

Rotten? Self interest maybe, but hardly rotten.

Goat heads. I prefer red black and white anyway.

In all likelihood the name would change, so that would be sad and thus not the same team, but there's no talk of the team moving so I wouldn't worry about it. There's several rich guys around the area or in Southern Ontario who might keep it just where it is.

That is part of it.

The other part is, if you GET that guy, will Pegula stand back, not insist on input into hockey decisions?   As I have said in another tread, Pegula seems to want input (at least to me he does) in hockey decisions more than he does with football decisions.  And, why would he hire a guy that he knows will tell him to 'take a hike' or 'get lost' when he wants to be heard.

Sell em, move em, wait a couple years, get an expansion team, hire the VGK architects and entice Bettman to look the other way.

In all seriousness things may be too far gone. Arizona got out of hand and couldn’t dig themselves out. Nobody likes that thought but it is a possibility.

If this season goes like the first two games you have to at least look at another rebuild that says goodbye to a couple guys.

Now I bunker down and wait for the response.

I realize the Texans just beat the Bills, but what have you got against Houston?

Selfishness is sometimes necessary but more often is a rotten mindset.

I don’t understand this take, I have tried finding any viable articles or tweets from an actual former player or coach who says Terry Pegula is the reason or he meddles too much, not 1 single article. I’m sure there are plenty of media with a “source” but no YouTube video or actually former player saying this. That doesn’t mean it’s not true but until I see concrete evidence I won’t assume this to be true.

Yeah, I still believe it.  Is there a smoking gun?  Maybe not, but there is a lot of  circumstantial evidence, that others, plus myself, have posted over the years when it has happened.

If you want to wade into this, check out the old thread below.  There is a lot of stuff in there you have to sift through, but there are also alot of quotes, some links (or screenshots) of articles/posts that, to me, go beyond 'circumstantial evidence' are are pretty close to the smoking gun of an owner who 'meddles' to the detriment of the team.

I guess we’ll just agree to disagree on that, not a big deal.

Remember when Jack Eichel commended Kevyn Adams for taking a swing at 2021? There’s your smoking gun

You have to read between the lines a bit, but it’s right there. He’s praising the GM and the most telling aspect was that he chose to do so. What does that create a contrast between?

Weird, I used the term before I read your post. Great minds
