Well guess what…that was a play Risto would be proud of from our soon to be Norris Trophy winner…at least that is what some posters have stated. Come on now. Let's not pretend that Norris voters care even the slightest about that side of the ice. 1

Dahlin isn’t Norris Trophy worthy at either end. 😉
LGR4GM
So predictable that the best player on the team is the #1 scapegoat.

Watching Dahlin closely today, really don't believe that the injury is getting any better. His movement is significantly affected and he had at least 2 plays at the blue line that got out past him that he normally corrals like they were tethered to his stick. BUT he seems to be understanding what he can and cannot do with his current injury. He's playing a simpler, safer game (not including his poorly chosen and even more poorly executed pass back to Thompson that lead to the SHG against) and that's probably why he had 3 assists for the Sabres (and only 1 for the bad guys). Have no idea when he'll be back healthy; and if it IS a sports hernia, which is this kid's best guess as to what ails him, he won't be healthy until they give him months of rest or surgery, but he is getting to a point where he's effective even at only 75%. That is not the Dahlin I am familiar with. He routinely has pucks go past him at the blue line, injured or not. It’s baffling. Our Captain is in great position here... but he never does a shoulder check.... eyes glued to the puck. Complete lack of awareness. Where are you going! Leaves a 57g scorer all alone in front for a tap-in, probably the easiest goal he'll score all season. This play really grinds my gears, it's undisciplined and shows an extreme lack of awareness. I've benched PeeWee level players for less. You cannot win hockey games against good teams when your Captain has his head up his ass. Totally agree. I noticed it when it happened and couldn’t believe it.

And the guy this kid saw in past seasons would make some miraculous keep ins that led to great scoring chances and oftentimes goals.

Absolutely, once he had the puck, though. He’s often not great when it is coming towards him along the boards in that situation. It’s pretty weird. Won't disagree that the puck gets past him some at the boards (particularly the left boards, which is NOT where he played coming up through the ranks). Will be watching for that more. It could be as simple as he's not as adept at using his body to keep it in the zone as guys that are used to (aka grew up) always playing on their "strong" side.
