Big mistake. Should have been Tuch or Thompson.

Tuch?  The guy who is the embodiment of the problem?  No.  The sooner he's gone the happier I will be. I don't care that he likes to go to Bills games or grew up next to Tim Connolly.  I'd say he's checked out but he doesn't check, so I can't even give him that.

We need a much much bigger player who hates to lose.  Terrifies younger players after a loss.  We need nasty. "Win the game or I will kill you" 😆

…but but but, Tuchy wants to be a Sabre and that is what is most important, right?

Who cares about his play on the ice, we want players who want to be here.

Tuch and Thompson are both part of the problem. If Tuch wasn’t from Syracuse he would be a Cozens level whipping boy. But I guess that earns you letters over here.

Dahlin is fine. He needs to be better though for sure. But I highly doubt any lacking performance is the result of wearing the C. If he’s wearing the weight of it, mentally, that’ll have been a prerequisite to him getting that crown in the first place: it’s in his nature and that he feels responsible for the results is going to be present regardless

hard truth of today’s NHL: it‘s exceptionally tough for a D-man to be your best player.

this is now a league of goals

Of offence

Sorry, I can’t provide the link, but look at Hamilton’s comments on Audacy from Tuch and Dahlin after the loss to the Jackets last night.

I am even more convinced the Sabres picked the wrong player for Captain….it should have been Tuch!

I don’t get the Tuch hate.  He is an excellent 3rd line player.  Trade him and he improves most any teams middle 6. The problem is we play him on the first line because we lack top tier talent at forward, we traded all of that away.

Quote from Captain Dahlin after the 6-4 pummeling in Columbus:

"They came out hungrier than us, it’s as simple as that. We have to win our battles, we have to play a little more desperate. I have to be better, and that’s my answer."

Honest but uninspired.

Thankfully Dahlin is not like the fans. He knows things take time to change. Leaders don't panic. They fix things for the long-term, not for October hockey.

Do leaders hip check teammates and flip them over, then crosscheck them, and then throw punches?

Did that help any player with their level of compete or to “win battles”?   Our leader just said we didn’t win battles.

I don’t think Dahlin has been fine at all.  He’s looked bad.  He’s not the same Rasmus.  Whether it’s a physical ailment or a a mental issue, he’s looked like garbage.

Tuch's an assistant captain, there's nothing stopping him from leading. How does changing his letter from A to C change anything currently going on? If he's so freaking great, why can't he lead with an A?

If you get hit in the face with a high stick in practice, you have a right to retaliate. It is Krebs and Dahlin too. I am surprised we don't see more of it. It is like brothers fighting each other. Not a big deal.

Sure hockey fights in practice do happen, but rarely.

But let’s not pretend it helped with anything.   It didn’t change the way the team plays on game day.  The team is not dialed in at all.  Dahlin and Tuch and Ruff all said they are losing battles.   That was Columbus that seriously beat them, and they were missing several players.

Not Captain material, unfortunately.

You need someone who is high-drive and passionate. Also someone that will work the bench and rile his teammates up.

We have 1 captain and 4 assistants, they don't all need to be high drive and rile up the team. Anyone of the 5 could do it.

Dahlin is the Captain because he leads and is the most skilled player on the roster.

Just watch the end of the Capitals game last year with Oshie hit on Tage.

Well anytime one of those players who hates to lose opens his mouth, the Sabres ship him out of town because he 'doesn't want to be here.'

O'Reilly voices that he's sick of losing...GONE.  Eichel and Reinhart don't want to be part of ANOTHER rebuild...GONE and GONE.

At the first inkling that a player is sick of losing, Adams looks to ship them out because if you can't stand losing, then you don't want to be here.  And that's why under Adams, being a loser is the definition of being a Buffalo Sabre.

Probably not the right thread for this, but didn't see one that was obviously the right one.

Watching Dahlin closely today, really don't believe that the injury is getting any better.  His movement is significantly affected and he had at least 2 plays at the blue line that got out past him that he normally corrals like they were tethered to his stick.

BUT he seems to be understanding what he can and cannot do with his current injury.  He's playing a simpler, safer game (not including his poorly chosen and even more poorly executed pass back to Thompson that lead to the SHG against) and that's probably why he had 3 assists for the Sabres (and only 1 for the bad guys).

Have no idea when he'll be back healthy; and if it IS a sports hernia, which is this kid's best guess as to what ails him, he won't be healthy until they give him months of rest or surgery, but he is getting to a point where he's effective even at only 75%.

2 of his 3 assists today were beautiful plays. He obviously is banged up but improving but he is the Captain and he leads by example. Some players respond to the vocal captains and some don't, but they all respond to captains that lead by example. Players know who is playing with significant injuries, especially when they already got their big contract. This team particularly needed learn how to toughen up and play when things get difficult.  Lindy and Dahlin have changed the culture of the Sabres. The goatheads also give them a little extra edge.  Sports are really mental.

For as limited as he is right now, he's really playing well.  And, again, honestly believe he's finally getting a feel for what he can still do with his limited mobility.  Which, SHOULD be viewed as a testament to his hockey IQ.

Are you watching the games? Tuch and Thompson are both playing well, at least from what I have observed. Tuch may not be garnering a lot of offensive stats but on both sides of the ice he is one of our most aggressive players. He and Greenway are two of our best penalty killers. Our top line is playing well. He's a factor in that.
