C'mon man.   I was replying to your first post speculating Necas and you posted again before I could even finish it.

This is a serious trade...  I love it.

Well, if the Sabres had a Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi on their roster perhaps they could play. The rumor is that the deal does not include any extension and Rantanen is already reportedly wanting to be the highest paid player in the NHL.

So.. any deal the Sabres made would be moving their best roster pieces for a partial year of service.

Jack Drury is going to Colorado not Kotkanemi from Carolina

The Chicago part is odd. That frees up slightly over a million for Carolina. I assume Carolina needs every last inch of space they can find.

They gave up Hall, took on all that money and they only get a 3rd?  Although it is a very early 3rd.

Took on 4.5M and gave up Hall, the lottery-winning cheat code, for pick 65-67? That seems kind of weak.

They took on money but also got rid of Hall’s salary. They don’t want him anyway. So they absorbed a little over a million in exchange for that draft pick. It honestly doesn’t seem worth their time to me.

Honestly the rest of the trade makes some sense; but the Chicago part just seems underwhelming for all that their doing facilitating the trade.

Why would Adams make this trade? Rantanen was never in the room and we know the answer is in the room so the trade makes no sense for Buffalo.😝

Rantanen's salary was too large this season for the Sabres, let alone an extension. Plus, getting a third team to retain half the salary would've made it a very difficult trade.

Also, "Too old! Too old to become a Sabre."

The key is can the Hurricanes sign Rantanen. Necas and Drury are big pieces to lose for a rental.

They’re very good at not being able to re-sign their trade acquisitions.

Well clearly Buffalo could never have been in on Rantenen and he'd never sign long term here even if we did cough up the cash but it's also clear that the Necas deal might have been possible earlier as Carolina obviously feels like they aren't going to want to sign him for what he will want either.

If Adams was a good GM I think he could have made a Necas deal in the off season.
