Well, if the Sabres had a Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi on their roster perhaps they could play. The rumor is that the deal does not include any extension and Rantanen is already reportedly wanting to be the highest paid player in the NHL. So.. any deal the Sabres made would be moving their best roster pieces for a partial year of service. But it would be hard to argue they’re better now than they were yesterday. Quote
shrader Posted yesterday at 02:29 AM Report Posted yesterday at 02:29 AM The Chicago part is odd. That frees up slightly over a million for Carolina. I assume Carolina needs every last inch of space they can find. Quote

It honestly doesn’t seem worth their time to me. Quote

Honestly the rest of the trade makes some sense; but the Chicago part just seems underwhelming for all that their doing facilitating the trade. Quote

Flashsabre Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago The key is can the Hurricanes sign Rantanen. Necas and Drury are big pieces to lose for a rental. Quote

Rantanen was never in the room and we know the answer is in the room so the trade makes no sense for Buffalo.😝 1 1 Quote

Plus, getting a third team to retain half the salary would've made it a very difficult trade. Also, "Too old! Too old to become a Sabre." 1 Quote

Well clearly Buffalo could never have been in on Rantenen and he'd never sign long term here even if we did cough up the cash but it's also clear that the Necas deal might have been possible earlier as Carolina obviously feels like they aren't going to want to sign him for what he will want either. If Adams was a good GM I think he could have made a Necas deal in the off season. 1 Quote
