The last playoff spot in the east is going to come down to Buffalo or Columbus.

Sounds like we’re in a reasonable position then

say what now? I think you've forgotten a few teams ahead of both.

Yeah I know.  No logic there but I WANT to think the Sabres will get back into it, and for some reason when I watch columbus, I have a 'feeling' they are going to be there. Again, no logic, just a feeling that I'm probably going to be WAY off on.

Given the number of teams we currently need to leapfrog (4 plus CBus has a game in hand), and the statistics showing how very few teams not in a playoff position at thanksgiving make the playoffs, I don’t know how anyone can have optimism that this team pulls it off.

But by points% - the Sabres were in a playoff spot ON american thanksgiving day ... they are just trying to be on the list of teams in a spot that did NOT make the playoffs twice 😞

I would pick Columbus, they are heading in the right direction at least

And for them to claim Trouba off waivers (if waived rather than traded) would get them back into cap compliance from the Gaudreau death. Trouba can still probably hack it as a 3rd pairing guy for a bit.

I'd actually love Trouba. He actually hits people.

“Used to”.

If he comes free, I’d give him a shot.  Thats about it

At 50% retention, I would take him.  I would not claim him on waivers if I were Adams.

I'm no expert on the Rangers, how they play, or on defensive systems in general.  I understand that they play a man to man D-zone system and that Trouba and Lindgren are struggling with it.  Either might be fine in a more conventional structure.

He has 39 hits this year which would put him second amongst our D. Winner of the Messier award for leadership across the NHL last year (not gonna lie didnt know that was an award). Could be a spark if it comes cheap to free.

I think when push comes to shove in the stretch drive the veteran teams will separate themselves from the young up and comers. In general young upstart teams have to leap ahead early and then hang on later in the year. Depth and experience come into bigger focus second half of the year.

Trade deadline also separates teams and you can be pretty sure that we won't be picking up any palm tree haters for stretch drive help either.
