Good looking out, Biz. Here's part of his quote about the incident:

"I go to dinner at this place called Houston’s. I go there three, four times a week. The staff’s incredible, the food’s incredible and just like good people and I love going there. And, um, the bar where I normally sit was packed. I sat in the dining area and at one point there was a bit of a ruckus going on in the bar. It was a bunch of drunk golfers. Things continued to escalate. They asked one guy to leave and then one guy kept getting in the manager’s face, put his hands on him and that went on for about 30, 45 seconds. And you could tell he was a little shocked and surprised and stunned. It’s a family restaurant.

I don’t think there was anybody in there who could maybe help them out, so, I went over and I just grabbed the guy’s arm that was on him. I said, ‘Sir, if you continue to harass and assault the staff, we’re going to have problems,’ and then they just started chucking."

He's not everybody's cup of tea. And, lord knows, he's not some sort of perfect guy.

But I really like Biz. I think his heart's in the right place. And he's got a good sense of humour.

Good for him, maybe. But in grabbing one of the patrons (technically assault?) and issuing what could be perceived as a threat, his hands aren't clean. Short of someone's life being in danger, you let the staff handle it or call 911. I'm sure Biz will not be charged, being a former NHL player. You or I...

I would never do what Biz did in that situation. I'm not cut out for what often follows such an intervention.

But if you're a person who can handle themselves? And you do something reasonable -- such as place your hand on an offender's arm or shoulder and tell them to knock it off or else -- as part of an effort to protect someone innocent? You're getting a gold star from me.

Hmm. Really?

He was at the Keybank center for an appearance a couple weeks ago for the Blues game I believe.  He hung around beyond the allotted/published time to do pictures and autographs. We chose not to stand in line, but it was definitely good vibes all around. Also he's larger than I expected.

Yes, someone should have been calling 911. However, attempting to stop an assault that is happening is not going to result in an assault charge.

Good on him for standing up an attempting to intervene. It's unfortunate what happened to him. More people should be willing to stand up to morons like that. Unfortunately only Bissonette did, but if a group of people were to get up and defend the staff that would dramatically change things for the smaller group of drunken idiots.

Absolutely. People are idiots. You could very easily find yourself staring at a knife or gun.

Not unfair.

Context matters, of course.

But nowadays, you never do know.

This is why I’d never do more than try to diffuse the situation. Perhaps a well placed distraction! “Yo, fellas, there’s two chicks making out in the parking lot!”

What is the expectation for an NHL heavy weight vs some rando golfer dooshes?  He should be able to take on how many?

Is this akin to “how many Kindergarteners could you take in a fight?”

De-escalation must be a fine art these days.

Biz threatening ‘continue your behavior and we’re going to have problems’ is a threat. That only pushes the temperature up.  And the folks who are clearly in the wrong took it exactly that way.  Fragile masculinity all around.

If you’re going to intervene, you have to get the temperature down or you’re not helping at all.

Im gonna go out on a limb and suggest that, after a long career as an NHL knuckle chucker, “continue your behavior and we are going to have a problem “ is the only way Biz knows to bring the temperature down.  He’s conditioned to that working, at least occasionally 😂.

This also falls under the premise of, when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

And let’s keep in mind that this is his after the dust has settled version of the story.

I can't fault anybody for stepping up to help somebody being harassed but most likely he played the heavy seeing the guy and didn't realize there were 6 buddies with the guy so he got in over his head. No doubt alcohol was involved. Sounds like he's okay though so he will have another story to tell on a future broadcast.

for sure. “get your f**king hands off him, you f***king pigeon, or i’ll knock your goddamned teeth in” is way closer to what Biz actually said to the drunk golf bro. and far more likely that Biz grabbed a fistful of shirt rather than placing a hand on dude’s arm.

The other question is where was anyone else. When I was In high school I worked 3rd shift in an all night dinner. When there was trouble in the front of the house the whole kitchen staff would burst out with sharp utensils in their hands. The offenders were out the door in a hurry.

Like Ron White likes to say "didn't know how many of them it would take to whip me, but saw how many of them there were and knew it would be enough."

Yes, I've worked in places like that as well. Or been in bars where they handle their own stuff. Old school I guess. Can't speak to this place or how big or intimidating the dudes might have been.

Never been in the one in AZ, but Houston's in most towns is a reasonably upscale steak house.  Not at all surprised Bissonette likes eating there; quite surprised a brawl broke out in one.

I’m picturing something a bit more aggressive than just grabbing shirt. But given that the charges are all going the other right now, I’m sure he didn’t do anything too crazy.
