Dallas now up 3-1 on the Bruins. All of a sudden this year the Bs look pretty average, a team looking like they're in the decline. Awwwww

Make that 4-1 - haha

I think having two good goalies really helped them stave off the decline last year.

This is a season where other teams are faltering around the Sabres. If they can put it together and  somehow start getting some PP production then they can give themselves a shot.

Good thing Kevyn didn't do something mind bogglingly stupid like trade a top 6 center we spent years developing for a redundant defenseman who adds nothing to the roster leaving us with a #2 center who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. That would be really bad.

They're slow. Really slow. Marchand looking over the hill. They can't score. They will fall this year. Just a question of how far.

It's there for the taking but this looks like the year maybe Ottawa and Detroit also make moves upwards.

Detroit are 4-3 and have won their last 2 games while being outshot by ridiculous margins.

I like Buffalo’s roster better than both teams but it’s a matter of executing with consistency. Beating Detroit Saturday would be a big start.

Leafs fans booing them off the ice tonight, with someone tossing a Leafs jersey on the ice. Haha

They will probably be OK. This is what the Leafs do early in the season before they straighten things out.

Last year Toronto was 6-5-2 (basically 6-7) after 13 games and the fans were booing.

2 years ago they were 4-4-2 after 10 (basically 4-6) and the fans were booing.

3 years ago they were 2-4-1 (2-5) after 7 games, riding a 4 game losing streak, and the fans were booing.

Detroit is on a 3 game win streak where they have been massively outshot every game.

Outshot 39 to 22 against Nashville (won 5-2)

Outshot 30 to 11 against the NYI (won 1-0)

Outshot 40 to 19 against the NJD (won 5-3)

That is 109 to 52 or they are being outshot by 53%.

That is all shocking considering they are tied for 22nd in the league in sh% at 9.9% and for reference, Buffalo is 11th with 11.7%. I only bring all of this up because we see the Red Wings tomorrow and honestly if we can get good goaltending, we should really end their streak because we should be able to play better than them. Of course we also know how streaky this team was last year so would be really nice to see them actually build off the Dallas win.

Edit: Also, I was reading a piece on Detroit and they haven't given up an even strength goal since the first period of the preds game. Considering Buffalo is good 5v5, will be interesting to see if they can breakthrough. Detroit sucks on the PK so maybe Buffalo's PP finally gets a goal.

New Jersey, they have such a solid team but can't get good goaltending again. It looks like they dominated Detroit last night but ended up losing as Markstrom had another bad game.

Great team, but so farm Markstrom and Jake Allen both have a GAA over 3 and a save percentage under .900

Detroit got incredibly lucky converting on their few opportunities while the Devils missed on lots of opportunities that should've ended up in the back of the net. The turning point was in the third with a horrific non-call on an obvious (and very filthy) board that caused the Devils to completely lose their cool and composure.

All those shots and no goals by the opposition...  clearly, Saturday is the Cozens and Quinn breakthrough game.

There's no reason we can't be better than Detroit or Ottawa but we have to be better if that makes sense. We have the talent on the roster, we just have to play proper hockey. The signs are there. We might be getting there but it's early.

Detroit has been outshot but they look balanced and competitive. I saw that Jersey game and yes, they were outshot badly, but they also maximized their moments. They are a dangerous team. It's a big game coming up if we want to be legit.

Ottawa idk. I haven't seen much and that Ullmark injury might hamper them. I heard they might be looking to sign Tokarski due to goalie injuries but that's just a rumor. I might watch that Vegas game today to see what Ottawa's really got. Sanderson is supposedly playing very well, which does not surprise me.

From NHL.com

"Alexis Lafreniere signed a seven-year, $52.15 million contract with the New York Rangers on Friday. The contract, which has an average annual value of $7.45 million, will begin next season.

The 23-year-old forward, who has seven points (four goals, three assists) in seven games this season, is in the final season of a two-year contract he signed on Aug. 23, 2023.

Lafreniere is coming off a career-high 57 points (28 goals, 29 assists) last season and had 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help New York reach the Eastern Conference Final.

The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Lafreniere has 155 points (79 goals, 76 assists) in 305 regular-season games and 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 43 playoff games."

Maybe Taxes don't matter. Seems like a sweet deal for the Rangers.

Watching Leafs vs Bruins somehow hoping no one wins, lol.

Is it despicable to want to see Marchand cheap shot Matthews? Match his suspension to the time that Matthews is out of commission.

I watch these games and I have mixed feelings:

-Growing up I liked the leafs as a little kid, not as much as the Sabres, but seeing them on HNIC, I grew to have some kind of attachment to them.

-I lived near Boston for 5 years, and just like Toronto as a kid, having access to all the Bruins games and talk radio, I became aquainted with the players and started to like them a bit.

-After moving back to Western NY, and seeing things with the Sabres, Bruins, and Toronto the last decade, I don't like either of them anymore.

But when it comes down to it, I actually SLIGHLTLY favor the Bruins over the leafs.  Why? the Fans.  Now Bruins and Boston fans in general can be pretty bad, but being exposed to both, Leaf fans can be much more intolerable than Boston fans. Boston fans are spoiled and arroagant, but not much more than any other fanbase.  However, Leaf fans?  No fanbase I have ever experienced  is as arrogant, thinks the Refs are against their team more, thinks they have the best players simply because they 'are Toronto" and "of course EVERYONE wants to play there".  I actually have witnessed Bruins fans Legit say they weren't the best team when they lose and give the other team credit.  If you get to that with leaf fans, its only after 10,000 posts or words written about how they were 'wronged'.
